Remember dyno #'s can vary a lot especially the location like the one in Huntington Beach is near Sea level . Also depending on ambient air temps the DA or Density Altitude can also skew #'s

A warm day The DA can be as much as 1k ft higher or more in elevation so dyno #'s can vary . when I'm drag racing I watch the DA very closely to get as much hp as I can out if my motor

But it shows that K&N does make HP , My 10" dia 6" tall K&N filter only lost 3hp on my drag race motor and made more hp using a V stack

Coming from owing a couple of Evos... Sure you can gain (although apples and oranges compared to a Taco), but the only way to maximize the gains is with a proper tune. Our ecu’s are set up for a certain configuration. If you just slap parts on there you can’t expect to gain the full potential when it comes to parts that change air/fuel ratios. You main gain a little, but 18 hp is nuts. It reminds me of that clown on YouTube who expected to gain 29 hp on his Taco with just bolt ons. I’ll try and find the vid... Standby.

    Here ya go!

Is there an ECU on the test engine? If not, it’s not a fair comparison to a current production vehicle.

Flash back to stock to remove the effect of the tune.

Literally every test video I have seen online has shown a small gain due to an aftermarket CAI. I think all of these videos set out to show that there were no gains in a CAI.

I think the improved sound alone is worth the cost.

I was on the street recently and a Lexus LC was driving up and down the expressway. It was one of the most exciting sounding Toyota engines I have ever heard. They designed the LC's intake system to have the best sound for the driver's experience.

I am willing to pay for that increased excitement, and I see nothing wrong with that.

I bought it 100% for sound and looks. To my surprise the kit included the dyno print out. It was this moment that my curiosity was sparked and started looking more into it. I can feel the little bump in HP also just like many others have on this forum. So the gains were a bonus for me.

I just booked my Dyno for next Saturday and the guy was literally trying to sell me out of it, saying its very difficult to do what I am trying to do. He says if you go 3 runs stock, then try to go 3 more runs after that it wont work because the engine temperature will be much hotter than the 1st runs so by default power tends to drop a bit. Trying to figure out the best most accurate way to do this because everything he said made sense. He also said if you do it on different days the humidity alone can throw things off if the weather is different

Regardless of CAI from stock to K&N to whatever, is there a difference in actual filters preferred or just run stock?

You have to do runs then let cool then do next runs. It will take quite a while to accomplish same day.

It is a trust but verify situation. Any manufacturer can release biased results. How many tests or what conditions went in to showing whatever gains the product boasts? It’s similar to vehicle fuel economy ratings. Optimum environment, optimum results as the only results actually released, etc. No different than scientific studies. There is always a bias to publish what “looks good” and trash the rest. We would see a lot more scientific journal articles out there if it was socially acceptable in those circles to publish failures.

DYNO TEST HAS BEEN SCHEDULED. 04/28 @3PM.

The guy was almost trying to talk me out of it though. He was saying that typically they will go for 3 runs and use the 2nd run for results. But If I try to run 3 more after that, the engine temp will already be at higher levels than the first run so the numbers will be different based on that alone? And If I try to come back a 2nd day, if the weather is different or humidity different it will mess with the numbers. I think I am going to call a few more shops. They quoted me $90 per Dyno so $180 if I want to text both CAI's

Here is my plan so far.
Drive truck around for a while and then drive to the shop and have them run the test quickly after so its at regular driving temp. Then let the truck cool off while switching the CAI, maybe drive it around again to try to match the same driving temperature before the 2nd Dyno runs.

If your truck has a automatic that can skew #'s especially once the torque converter gets hot . your then looking at percentage of converter slip to figure out real RWHP !! . Also the transmission will also get hot affecting #'s

Did he say how much rpm he's going to pull to ??? , remember a chassis dyno puts a lot of strain on the engine especially back to back pulls

I've left rod capson the dyno room floor and nice windowed blocks and oil pans even a grenaded transmission so be careful and listen to the engine and watch temps and oil press
