All the anti-Ford hate is funny. I traded my (way too big, it doesn't fit in my garage) 2014 supercrew fx4 3.5 EcoBoost in for my 2016 TRD OR 4 door. This was my 4th Toyota pickup/Tacoma. What a mistake I made. The engine/trans pairing in this third gen is an absolute joke. And Toyota engineers made 5 & 6 gear way too tall for this engines torque curve all in the name of highway mileage numbers. But all the fan boys make excuses and overlook all the glaring issues on these trucks, I.e. what would all you mall crawlers say if ford put rear drum brakes on their trucks? You guys would bash them. Leaking rear difs, under filled transmissions, manual seats, outrageous gear hunting and rpm surges? Haha, you come up with super clever names like "ecofail". Very cute.

I'm a bit ornery as my third gen has been a complete piece of crap and I miss my f150. I've hired a lemon law attorney and I currently am in negotiations with Toyota USA about them buying my truck back from me. My lawyer is/was shocked how fast Toyota agreed to buy my truck back, he did extensive research about these 2016-18's and is certain Toyota realizes the issue they have in front of them.

Background info for all you guys out there that feel like they are stuck with a lemon, the dealer has had my truck in 3x for my transmission issues. 3 days, 7 days and 25 days. 37 days total, all before the truck had 6k miles on it. After the third visit, which an Toyota engineer was brought in to drive my truck, I was told that it is performing as engineered and manufactured. What? It to you guys 37 days to come up with that corporate line?

I've had the tsb flashes done 3x and bought the ShiftSense Pro, which helped a bit.

I drove it from CLE to Tampa, 1100 miles and the truck rarely made it into 6th gear. I was happy when it stayed in 5th. It mostly shifted between 3,4&5th. I made a video for my attorney, 48 minutes long, and Toyota doesn't even want to see it. My trans was "hunting" between gears as often as 8 times per minute/mile. I estimated that it shifted 3000 times during that drive (one-way). My mpg average for the trip was 14.3 mpg. CC set at 69 mph.

So I laugh when I hear that ford is garbage or blah, blah, blah.

Do I like my Tacoma? I like the size. I like the way the OR rides. I like it's LED running lights. And I like, no, loved my 1988 Marty McFly look alike, my 1992 V6 Xtra cab 4x4 and my 1996 2wd Tacoma. Loved them. But I am not a blind fan boy and can sniff out a turd and call it like it is.

    Rant over.

What did you call it when you said basically the same about your ford? Oh yeah, sharing his experience.

Waiting on the attorney to finalize this buy-back but checked out an 2018 F150 with the 2.7 EcoBoost (don't need the towing of the 3.5 anymore) yesterday and a 2018 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon today. Both were $52k. Jesus.

Bottom line for me is they don't build 'em like they used to.

    Damn I sound old.

EDIT: I've been coming here a lot more to read about 3rd gens, but the more I read, the better my 2000 and my wife's 2006 are looking.

I've been blasting away on here for a couple days now, as I will have to sign an agreement with Toyota that I will not discuss this. "Keep quiet" paperwork I guess.

Surprisingly Ram has some of the lowest MSRP trucks on the market, I can get into a Ram eco-diesel a little over 10K cheaper than the diesel F150.
Ford (and others) have gotten ridiculous with their pricing, I believe it’s because of how many people finance a vehicle, all 3 of my vehicles have been bought outright.

I know the feeling. I have found a few "low mile" 1992-1995 Tacomas on eBay that are absolutely gorgeous. That is really what I want the original Tacoma.
