I have the OV Tune. Not sure if I can utilize it in a way to work with the CAI or if it will all do it on its own. We shall see on Dyno day lol

    @TacoSauceHB

If you can find the elevation of this dyno facility and if you've got a digital temp gauge that reads temp , barometric press in /hg and dew point . Also let me know the time of day these runs are

With this info I can figure out DA (Density Altitude ) and Relative Density both needed to figure out corrected elevation

The shop is down the street from me so should be right about 39f above sea level. They want me to come 28th at 3pm, but I am still calling around. I will document as much as I can and video everything.

That depends on the individual. A guy that has raced for many years and is very “in touch” with his car would, a regular joe schmoe wouldn’t.

Lol at some of the replies in this thread.

You will get a bit more power out of your aftermarket filter if it allows more air through.

Unfortunately, you only get it at wide open throttle. Not half throttle, not quarter throttle. Only when you pin it to the floor! Why? Because your ECU adjusts your fuel/air mixture in all conditions except WOT. So, even though you are getting a bit more air flow, your truck is just adjusting it back to nominal mixtures.

One thing it seems that everyone is forgetting is why the air filter is in there in the first place.... to filter the air! Do anyone of you know if the aftermarket filter has the same micron rating or dirt holding capacity of the OEM filter? I didn't think so. So, you are probably letting more small dirt particles into the intake.

Bottom line... if you continually floor it, you will get a bit more power (less than 10 hp) when you do. Otherwise, all you get is sound.

Lastly, for all of you that claim better mpg's or some such claim, chances are really good (like 100%) it has nothing to do with the air filter and everything to do with driving habit or environment. Remember you are just one data point from over a half a million or so that have been sold.

As long as people who put k&n filters in the stock box make sure to put on that sticker they give you, then we're good. I just don't wanna accidentally buy a vehicle that has ever had a K&N in it.

Any power gains will be negligible without a real tune for power of some sort anyway. All stock vehicles are tuned conservatively for longevity.

I live in SoCal where most of us drive like a**holes. I drive WOT every chance I get haha maybe that explains why other members never feel it?

On my 02 Tacoma Pre Runner which has a supercharged 2.7 4cyl I'm running a K&N FIPK which also has a K&N filter sock

    https://www.knfilters.com/mobile/mProduct.aspx?prod=RF-1037DR

There is absolutely no dirt on the filter and inside the the intake tube no dirt build up that can affect the MAF

    0316181601_HDR.jpg

Filter was replaced with maybe 5k miles on it for a clean filter . No dirt or sand noticed inside or outside of filter

You have several good responses in this thread by people who know what's up. Unfortunately, most of the other posters have no earthly idea what they are talking about. My above post is as factual as you are going to get, and it applies to all modern engines, not just the Taco.
You are going to get a bit more power at WOT. Nowhere else in the curve. That's it. You will not get as good filtration. That's fact. If you feel the trade off is worth it to you, by all means, enjoy the filter. I wouldn't bother with dyno runs though. 10-20 hp is well within the margin of error of the dyno so the results you get may or may not be realistic.
What you are attempting to do is akin to measuring a shaft tolerance of + - .0002 with a tape measure lol.

Q: How detrimental is a few microns less of filtration when you use proper oil and change your oil every 6000?

    A: negligible.

I've read your posts and they are spot on. I appreciate the knowledge you bring here.

Don't get lulled into a false sense of security with visual inspections of the sock or filter though.
Human hair diameter is around 45 microns, which is close to the limit of the himan eye.
Wall to piston clearance is around 5-7 microns and half of that is gonna be oil film.
Normal bacteria is about 3 microns lol.
You are not going to see the particles that can damage your engine with the naked eye on the filter. You need about a 20X microscope just to see the speck. It takes a LOT of this size particles just to get a minor discoloration, much less seeing a particle!
    Again, i appreciate your posts!

Ask the guy with two new engines in his 3rd gen how detrimental it is. He had warranty denied on his second one.
Normal on road driving? Not much. Off road? It is a big deal.

    Work in progress...
More power can be achieved by buying the friggin motor that you were after in the first place. Come on, you had to know that 270is hp and 260 range torq was not a monster. Now Ya want a percentage hitter to go yard? Get the Ram with the big ass hp engine etc and "stay in your own lane."
