Mine doesn't grab worth a crap either. I'm so used to it now at this point.

It's at that moment you realize how important a seat back is to push a clutch in

How many extra gallons of gas to do you carry when you go off like this?

I have a 6 puck ceramic in Frankenstein. Will beefier tranny and engine mounts. Grabs super hard. Not a learner truck. But If you know how to use it it'll hold the truck up on any hill perfectly.

    Hell no.

I have 6.5gal that I take right now, but I'm also very cognizant of where I'm going and where gas is available at various points in the trip. My plan is to carry 10gal by the middle of the summer - I'll be moving away from my Rotopax solution now that I have a dual jerry can holder on the rear bumper.

Same. I’m not ashamed to admit on a steep incline at a stop with cars behind me in this truck I still get a little nervous and I’ve driven manuals for almost 15 years. Clutch is wonky in this thing.

All this talk about clutches makes me wonder what everyone recommends for a replacement. Mine is like @eon_blue when he says that it seems like it never likes to grab hard or let you know when it’s engaged. I’ve been driving a stick since I was 16 (8 years) and I still kill my Tacoma about once a month just because of the fact it doesn’t grab hard. I’m also one of those guys that tries to never slip it more then needed though. 140k on the stock clutch

Really? The clutch in my dad's 96 grabs really well. Granted, it just had a new one put in about 15k ago, but it's one the better feeling clutches I've ever used. Definitely able to hold itself on hills and real easy to drive overall.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
The peddle weight is light but it holds hard. Yours felt like my roommates Hyundai, but with a heavier peddle. Almost binary and grabs at the very bottom. Although two other V6 tacos felt just like mine so I think you might have a goofy master or slave cylinder. Either way it was fun to drive though I didn't like going to the bottom for every shift, made me feel like a Fast and Furious driver even though I was going slow haha.

Truck has 167,000 miles on it. I can’t confirm but I’d bet it’s the original clutch. Has a nice whine when it’s not engaged too.

Ah yeah if that clutch is original, it's a bit long in the tooth. Although my dad's did make it to 190,000 before it started to slip. All depends on how it's been driven. I bet that whine in gear is a worn out throw out bearing.

Whines in neutral but goes away when you push the clutch. Also whines in gear except 4th but a different pitch. I’ve read on here that the “all gears but 4th” is common.

A buddy of mine had an FJ cruiser with the 6-speed with similar symptoms. Ended up being the throw out bearing. Might be normal for Tacos, not sure as my truck is an auto. Maybe someone who knows more about this will chime in.

Just be thankful you aren't learning to drive stick in a 90's Honda. That clutch is a bitch to learn with. After you do though it makes every other manual easy as pie.

1990 Honda Accord was what I learned on haha. First thing my dad taught me was how to do a power breaker burnout. I miss that little car it had pretty good balls.
