    Perfect timing.

And great way to escape it. Have you decided on the plan? Renting an rv seemed like a good trade off if it worked out for your plans.

Go figure... Book a trip to Kauai... And it gets bashed by floods.

Hopefully it'll look better in a week. :fingerscrossed:

    I doubt they'll discount it.

Haha, hopefully not under water is my main concern.. or washed into said water.

My last attempt for communication was before any state of emergencies, and it took two plus weeks for a call back due to island time. So...

Living on the edge and getting a 25' Bigfoot hopefully. Going to get airbags and anti sway hitch. We were thinking rent but we will be using it for the next 5 years or so with taking the kid and possibly a future kid camping in it in the future. Also it would be perfect to live out of if we find land to build on.

    Sounds like a fun adventure!

I know it was discussed before, but give yourself time to try it out with the tow rig before you cut ties... It's much easier to swap out a tow rig if need be while you still have a house vs in the middle of nowhere when you get sick of something that doesn't work well.

HaHa! A co-worker showed me those bad boys. I had no idea things like that existed.

I recall seeing a school bus that was turned into an RV. Then the owner threw it on slightly larger offroad tires. Kinda boss IMO.

My first trip into those caves was in 1999 when they first opened up tours. There was NOTHING there but a small bus which drove you up the mountain (the office was in town), a shipping container at the top with the gear (hard hat and lamp, IIRC), and in you went.

The "Wild Tour" back then went into areas no longer open to the public. I went on that one; there were only three of us on that tour that day, and the guide did not have another group scheduled. So, he offered to take us to every explored area in the system... which we gladly accepted. The twisting and squeezing required to get to each area was incredible - the guide described the physical moves it took to get yourself through some of those cracks and spaces, or else you weren't making it through.

Many years later (2007-ish) I returned to see the place built up like an amusement park... much different feel (i.e. it lost the charm that I liked). I asked about the Wild Tour, mentioning I did it in '99, and they explained it was not the same experience. The lawyers pointed out the liability of not being able to extract an injured or dead body from those far reaches (remember how it took specific movements to get through certain spots... hard to do that with someone hurt or deceased). To avoid the lawsuits (in spite of signing a liability waiver, etc. in order to even go on a tour), they stopped sending the Wild Tour visitors into those tough areas. But, I did it with my wife (who had not done it before) and it was good.

Hopefully picking it up from Spokane Washington next weekend. That will give us a 1000 mile test trip.
