i have been using a passport radar detector since i bought my last car and want to keep it in my taco. It works fine in other cars when I transfer it but will not stay plugged into the lighter in my truck. Any ideas to get it to stay?

hardwire it, or stick a small O ring around the charger to keep it seated.

Unfortunately, that just isn’t an option. Haha. I’ve had my fair share. I bought the radar when I bought my BMW. Now I just can’t drive without one.

The 12 volt outlet is not the same size as a lighter receptacle of old days.

I keep a GPS plugged in full time in the dash outlet. No issues. See if a charger (or something else) stays plugged in?

I will to be sure. But my radar works perfectly fine in every other car. So still won’t really solve my issue. It’s the only thing I use the outlet for.

I was thinking if it just something wierd and unique to that combo, you can get a dongle (extension) at Amazon.

When was the last time you were hauling it only to come up on an unmarked ? They are getting harder to pick out these days. Even seen unmarked suvs ! Makes detectors useless.

@InsuredToyota I bought my Tacoma in January and had the exact same issue as you with my escort radar detector. Last vehicle was a BMW as well. Loved my 400 horses but BMW value is non existent after 4-5yrs. Amazing how worthless they can become. I tried the O-ring fix and it worked but not the way you think. I tried wrapping it around my connector but it wasn't really working for me...I unplug it a lot if i'm on an important phone call and the detector is barking at me. So i inserted one of the o-rings between one of the metal tabs on just one side and it works perfectly.

Exactly why I got rid of the BMW as well, practically gave it away. Any chance you can send me a picture of your fix?

First pic post so hope I do this right. I can't remember what size o-ring I bought but I can check the box when I get home. This one has gotten stretched out a little but I bought a box of 10...and it worked when I stuck it back in just now. I know...reallllly simple but it's working and I no longer have a fear of driving through town with my detector OFF because it rattled out of the socket.

They're super cheap. Just take your charger into home depot and try them on. I actually went with a little different method and put one around the entire plastic part so that when installed it rolled back and wedged in. In my case, I was just using a 12v usb adapter that I did not want pulling out. Pretty much everything I plug in is USB.
