I second using Shapiro Metal Supply. As for the material... it all depends on how much weight you want it to be, weight you'll be carrying, welding capabilities (if you plan on welding it together) and I'm sure many other factors.

I've got a wielder but never fired it up... no freaking clue what im doing with it and this is something I'll prob have someone who knows wtf they are doing to weld it on. I was actually thinking id just bolt he damn thing on but the more I look at things welding it makes the most sense.
As for weight the tent weights about 270 I'm no small fella and the wife is average sized I think with us and our gear about 600lbs is more than enough.

Welding steel and aluminum are completely different. If you have a welder, I'd start practicing and do if yourself. This project will make you pick up a new skill and save you some money. My 2 cents

Thought I’d share. This media release is from the 25th CAB outta the aloha state. @HIYota Looks like local Police have a Taco doing work, during aid and relief efforts after flooding on Kauai.

Check my build thread...too much to list.
Mother Nature wrecked that island this last week. I saw all of the videos and picture people posted and it was crazy seeing the water levels. My in-laws and friend are having a hell of a week now that it's pretty much over since they are in the collision repair and car insurance business...
