I find the hate for both sides funny Both Toyota and Ford, and every manufacturer out there have their issues. I will preface this by saying I think EVERY vehicle on the road is a piece of shit. Some are just worse than others. The only rig ive ever owned that never had trouble was a 96 Acura Integra 4d.
My Tacoma spent more time in the shop than every other vehicle I have ever owned, combined. List goes, PS pump, idler pulley, belt tensioner, rear leaves, 3 different blower motors, rebuilt the front diff. Still had a nasty vibe that the dealer(shitty dealer) could never find. All that with only 44k miles on it. But offroad it was amazing, no doubt about that, and even with the issues I miss it sometimes. It was twice the rig my wifes '16 F150 is offroad. On road is a different story.
The 5.0 F150 is bigger inside, smoother, quieter, and hauls absolute ass, and gets about the same mileage as my taco did. Within 30k miles it has had to have the computer reflashed because of trans shifting issues and the fuel tank replaced because a valve on it was stuck and it would spit fuel back out when you filled it up.
On to my thoughts on Ford diesels...
The 6.0 is the biggest pile of shit I have ever driven. Its a company truck or it would have been gone. Stranded me twice, to the tune of $1800 each time. Spent a month in the shop, that was $4k. Now it blows blue smoke and has a miss intermittently, all before 155k miles.
My personal truck, and 01 7.3 is pretty good, small things here and there, its pretty gutless and leaks oil, but just keeps going and going, it currently has 186k...

That’s the biggest reason I can’t stand my grandpas ‘99 f250, the 7.3 with the 4 speed is terrible when towing over 10K lbs, and the 4x4 with the SFA with leaf springs makes the turning radius terrible, especially with the 4 door and 8’ bed.

Mines the 6.5'. Wish it was 8'. But it's still bad...

Do you use it for towing? Or hauling?
We had a ‘00 f250, 4 door 4x4 with the 6.5’ with the 7.3 and it towed just as well as the 8’, we even towed a Cat D5G about 40 miles in 2004, trailer and all was about 27K lbs.

For our 10K lb 5th wheel we put a sliding hitch system in and it towed pretty well, granted we have only towed it with short beds.

I was surprised to find our Ram has a slightly longer wheelbase than the 4door 8’ box f250 but vastly outnaneuvers it, it’s pretty cool what technology does in 14 years.

Just for the extra bed space. With a toolbox it gets small. We just have a 4 horse trailer, an 18' travel trailer, so not much. And i haven't hauled it yet but my dad has a 25' gooseneck flatbed. My dad is probably going to buy a new dmax so I'm buying his 03 dodge. Cummins, 6 speed, 4d 8' bed. Onboard air, bags, exhaust brake, 120k miles. It's immaculate.

Ahh, we never have used bed boxes, makes sense.

Awesome, my cousin has an 03 dodge 3500 4 door with a dump box, 4x4 and 6 Spd, HO model with some mods done to it and it’s a beast, he uses it for his tree trimming business and it’s an awesome truck.

You could call it in house, if I remember correctly it’s being built in the same place as the Jaguar diesels.

Ford would be smart to produce all of its diesel engines in-house after its sour dealings with Navistar International in production of the 7.3,6.0 and 6.4.

Chrysler has nutty discounts, when I worked at Chrysler I could of got into a 2014 ram sport quad cab for 6 grand more than what I bought my taco for.

Damn, while I don’t love rams light duty options I would still buy one for that.

I think if they are building quality diesel products in house, 30mpg will get them lots of customers

F150 is already best selling right ?

I think so. I know lots of people are drawn in by the tech packages. I will say that Ford definitely has some of the best of them and they're pretty damn comfy.

    Agreed

Can they go 200k miles with eyes closed like most Tacomas?

    I badly want a raptor

Agreed with you there. Raptors are sexy as hell and they're pretty good long-term. That SVT brand they have is solid

Its the pricetag that's brutal. Granted, it isn't insane, but easily twice the Taco if you buy new.

I think it’s cool the new raptor has a HO 3.5 EcoBoost.
I would’ve liked to see a small displacement v8 ecoboost in the GT though.
