In a few months, if she's proven to be responsible, we plan to give her the car as her 17th birthday present. My wife suggested we first give her the HU to open. She'll question it. Then we'll say...well, you need a decent HU for YOUR car. Then hand her the keys.

 

That's a cool idea. She's going to be very happy.

 

So once she turns 18 you'll sign the title over to her?

 

Just depends on her situation at the time. If it benefits her we will. But she'll be a senior in high school....so I doubt it.

These are actually very comfortable and decent driving cars (awful on fuel and power tho), but for some reason buicks of this era attract gross and creepy people like magnets. It's rare to see one without the back seat covered in years worth of fast food wrappers and various other detritus. This always make me laugh cause it's basically the same type of people buying them...

Did he/she even have a siren or the emergency lights on? Doesn’t seem so, pretty dangerous and irresponsible.

 

I didn't post that to throw any shade on anyone, like I said, I hope they were on their way to a call. I posted it mainly because if they are making it unlawful to record police officers, I'm not sure how I can run a dashcam and not accidentally capture the "po po" on video at least occasionally.

 

I hear what you’re saying but I still have a hard time with that level of speed without warnings - there’s driveways on that road. I have a new driver in the house, as do many folks we know given the ages they’re all at, and I can think of a lot of innocent mistakes that can turn very unfortunate when you add 50-70 extra mph. Route 95? Maybe. A 2 lane road with homes, hard to digest.

 

Understand, and my assumption is always that the police have our safety and best interest in mind. And I don’t believe that incident is without cause, they’re trying to get somewhere where they are needed. My concern is with the type of road and your average or new civilian driver.

 

I believe the issue regarding recording cops was pretty much settled a couple years ago by a Supreme Court ruling. The article referenced here a few pages back was dated sometime in 2010, so I don't think it really applies anymore.
