Never been to Malaysia, but I was on autopilot in Dubai arrival. Could have landed a A380 on my head and wouldn't have noticed. I'd tend to agree that big hubs like that do keep up appearances rather well.

Likely, lot of them are upwards of $60 an hour for union auto sector. Plus the rest of the package

Hard workers? sure, take pride in their craftsmanship? no. The attitude I see is mostly "get it done so I can go drink my six pack". Go look at most of your new houses being built these days (most built by Mexicans), will take you about 30 seconds to notice the crooked switch plates, shitty drywall, floor tile missing grout, etc.

I’ve been on the floor of a few Toyota plants. Regardless of location, they all have a dedicated area for new hires where they train for their position for months before they hit the line.
It also involves a pretty rigorous amount of physical fitness, and conditioning to ensure you are capable of performing the demanding physical and mental requirements of the job.
    I can’t remember what percentage don’t make, it but it’s a lot.
You’re going to vet out the exact people that this entire misconception Is being based on.

If you ever get a chance to tour a Toyota plant, it’s absolutely worth it. Between being a car person, working in the automotive industry, and being six sigma certified, it’s like a cosplay person going to comic-con

these are quality tools that are taken very serious by Japanese companies, Boeing, Martin-Marietta and others....it is one of the best ways to improve not only quality but manufacturing process and bottom line it reduces rejections and customer return thus increasing bottom line....Yes, it is tough to get started....thats why you have to have upper management buy in.....i have implemented many ISO systems and managed many six sigma black belt teams....it takes dedicated cross-functional people who are craving to solving complex inspection, testing and manufacturing issues.....or to solve issue addressed by customer returns....as i have said before, upper level management buy in is the key to success....and most of this is done without everyone being college degreed.....the key is to have people who know the process take leadership role in the team........

I don't think there is any quality difference between the two plants. When the 3rd gen first came out it appeared as though the Baja California plant had less problems but that could have been any number of reason, who knows exactly, I doubt it was because of the work ethic coming out of that plant. Keep in mind just because a vehicle is assembled somewhere doesn't mean all the parts come from that plant. Here in Missouri we have two plants that contribute to Toyota vehicles. Bodine Aluminum make cast aluminum parts for Toyota like the engine blocks, valve covers, etc. Toyoda Gosei makes the airbags, and plastic trim. An assembly plant is just that, assembly, they take all the parts other manufacturing plants make and put them together into a finished product. Just food for thought.

Mods: Is this still a Tacoma?
If a company claims ISO then they are held to high standards and are frequently audited to be allowed to maintain ISO status but not sure if ISO is implemented with foreign companies operating on foreign soil? I thought that was an American standard, like OSHA is to us for employees.

ISO, yes does help, but is so easy to bullshit. Trust me, the month before the audit my plant supervisor would pull me from my other duties and all I did was hide shit so the auditor wouldn't find and dig in. When I did in house audits, many things my boss would brush off. So I learned ISO is just another bullshit way pretend to do things by the book.
