What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I'm sure the price tag on the OEM Toyota vs the Cockauto is a hell of lot bigger too.

 

What service do you have?

 

I wouldn't worry about it, the motors are a gear reduction drive anyway, in theory you could put a super tiny motor on there with the right gears. That spring does most of the work the motor just nudges it in one direction or the other.

 

I like to intentionally drift back a little if they pull up real close and watch there eyes get big! Haha

I was surprised when I installed my Marlin kit, the peddle actually felt lighter. Could have had something to do with my throwout bearing being bad though.

 

Mine too, I went with a heavier fly wheel but overall my clutch feels pretty tame even though it grabs hard and defined.

Did your wheel bearings progressively start howling at all, I’m pretty sure mine are on the fritz but the howling seems pretty sudden.

 

Rotated my tires today (idk why they rotate every time I drive), notched my air bag perches so the drivers side would stop coming into contact with my shock, removed my rusty center caps, repainted my rear reinforcement plates, now I’m working on new belts and chasing a pulley squeak. I went with autozone belts because they only have to last 20k until I do my complete timing belt kit but one of the belts are already frayed. Typical autozone.

Also detailed my engine bay up real quick. Still needs some work.

 

If you're having a pulley squeak issue it can be from misalignment with other pulleys and be causing your belt fray issue too. Engine bay looks super clean, mine is a full on mud pit :/

 

The frayed pulley came like that out of the box. My pulleys all look good and the only one that seemed to have a little bearing play in it was the ac compressor. The bottom ac idler pulley does it matter which direction it goes?

 

Anyone know if my PreRunner stock leafs would fit on my 5-lug? Same year only difference would be the 5-lug chassis vs. the PreRunner chassis. Don’t know if the perches are in the same place.

 

With my mtr's it was hard to hear it. I felt a slight vibration, slightly more than normal, and then literally just seeing some posts of shot wheel bearings I think it was @m3bassman replacing his friend's 2nd gen got me thinking. I went and checked just out of curiosity. The howl is a common sign, and I would put your truck on jack stands and grab the wheel at 12 and 6 and see if you have any play, there should be zero. If no play it still could be bad. You then should spin the wheel as fast as you can and there should be no noise. Mine had a low pitched hum, faint but definitely made a noise. I knew it wasn't normal when I checked the driver side and it made no noise, and had no play. They say the passenger goes first, so I just had them both replaced. I already had the bearings, seals, and c clip as I was going to do this after I had gusseted the spindles, but I wanted to go on a trip that week so I slapped it all back together and put it off. From what I read, if you suspect you have a bad wheel bearing. Stop driving the truck immediately as it can do a few things if not all. Grind so bad and get so hot it welds itself to the spindle, and or separate the whole hub from the spindle dropping your LCA on the ground and your tire keeps going, or lock up and seize and bring you to a screeching stop.

 

So I flipped my idler pulley around from how it was last time and no more metal on metal constant squeak! I think my last one was bad and then I put the new one on backwards (I matched what was existing so I’m not sure what happened there). Also replaced the fuel filter today! Onto the GFs sway bar bushings.

 

Not all done "today" but last week was finally able to get the front bumper, winch, lights installed (still need to install final 2 lights in the fog cutouts), Shrockworks skidplates, CV's pulled and new CVJ silicone inner boots installed (with boot stretch mod), new OEM outer boots, 700lb coils installed for the added weight of the front bumper and winch, and front and rear 4.88's installed.

Then we promptly left (after breaking in the gears of course) and are in the middle of a 2500 mile road trip right now! Kid is on Spring Break and we figured we'd get out of the snow for a bit and head to warm weather...spending the week in Zion National Park/St George area. Hoped to go wheel at Sand Hollow while i was here for a day or two, but we've ended up spending more time in Zion than we expected (and that was the main point of the trip anyhow). However, we did get out today and checked out Toquerville Falls just down the road from Zion thanks to a recommendation from @Mallburg and it was pretty awesome!

Heading back home tomorrow, but here's a few pics with the new front end and other components you cant really see lol...

 

Don't think so. 5 lugs are spring under axle, pre-runner and 4x4 are spring over.

 

Yep, just got a brand new’er’ phone because my “brand new” phone wouldn’t hold a charge (battery was swelling)

 

After three visits to the 4x4 shop... finally got the sliders welded up...can’t wait to get em scraped up!

 

Went for a long drive with the SC today, starting to feel really good under acceleration now. Still not so sure what my boost level is but SpeedHut is making a gauge for me so we will know soon. All I know is it accelerates nicely without any real dead zone. Pink injectors seem to do well now without boost reference.

 

Wasn't a recall, the got caught lying about what their software did to the battery. Their OS was reporting that the battery being drained so fast that it had folks spend money on replacing batteries when it actually didn't. They should've just came out with it and said they programmed an algorithm that calculated battery life and that was the cause of why it looked like the batteries in iphones were replaced so much.
