Took my TX built Taco in for the 10K service today. Walked around on the lot and checked things out. The high-end Prius was a fully Japanese built vehicle, little else was, except the C-HR. There is little objective difference that I could point to - some serious orange peel on a $52K Tundra Platinum, some body line variance on several cars (Corollas, Camrys, Avalons); but if I were in the market for a vehicle in those segments, the VIN would start with J.

Look at the land cruiser and 4 runner

Drive it. Compare then to American Toyota products

You will be blown away by higher quality product made in Japan

The quality correlates to the production numbers. They put out 2500 camry’s a day, they don’t put out 2500 land cruisers a year.

Doubt the numbers have anything to do with it. Numbers you quote for LC is is a only. Factory makes it for the world

UAE and Australia has lots of land cruisers

There are 7+ million land cruiser sold so far

Been driving land cruiser and Nissan patrol since the FJ60 and they all have been amazing beasts ....

While I have Italian/British stuff in the garage, which are less than few hundred a year, and reliability and quality of these hand made products are garbage at best

Please don't think one company is the same as another as that would be deeply flawed logic. Training and supervision are the absolute key, and Toyota is world class. So much so that hundreds of companies copy their model, usually it is an inferior copy...

Someone posted above talking about education and skilled workmanship and how Japan is head and shoulders above everyone. That may be true, but I have been in several automotive assembly plants, including Toyota, and there is not much skill involved on the line. Its not like they are hand porting and machining the block and sculpting every hood scoop. They build around a thousand Tacomas a day. About 120 an hour per eight hour shift. That's two a minute. At that rate your workers need to be able to do their one task repetitively and efficiently, and that has nothing to do with high school or college.

Comparing Takata or other companies to Toyota is apples to oranges. Even comparing GM or Ford to Toyota, while both apples, is comparing two totally different apples.

    Makes sense

If all factory is automated then essentially Mexico or Texas should not have any quality variations

I do think Gm/fca vs Toyota should be a good comparison . I would all large companies reverse engineer and use similar automated robots etc ?

Or are you saying the white American in Ohio building a higher quality Honda than a white American in Detroit building a lower quality amemrican product, is more engineering and poor product design?

Ah, now you are getting away from the Mexico/ US comparison and into the REAL differences between auto manufacturers. You sure you want to go down that rabbit hole? The answers will surprise you lol.

Well for me I don’t ever see the manufacturing side

Mexico vs us (Toyota only) has provided some excellent insight from many of you insiders

Give us some real differences amongst the manufacturers as well. Be a learning experience and better than 80% of garbage 3rd gen threads about lift and sport vs or and diff howl daily

For sure ...much more entertaining then which lift level kit to pick, or which percentage of tint matched the back cause I’m too cheap to tint the whole truck.

Ok I’ll start, philosophical difference between OEMs, and quality of raw materials used for 500 Alex

My personal experience with the Thai-built Hilux's and the stripped down Japanese-built NA diesel LCs in SW Asia has been excellent. The Thai-built Toyota diesel vans (I forget what they call them) are superb also.

Alright, you asked for it and this will definitely not be the expected answer.
The real differences have nothing to do with workers or countries or states or unions or education. Most of assembly is automated and that takes all those variables out of play.
The real difference between auto manufacturers is simply their business model. You would think they are the same right? Build cars, sell cars, get paid. Nothing could be further from the truth.
    Ever wondered why:
Toyota goes longer between model changes
Why their technology lags behind competitors
Not very many incentives or discounts from companies like Toyota or Honda
And, why Toyota cost just as much as their competitors?
