I was able to pick one up used. After having an F150 with the pull out steps and stripper pole, you really appreciate some sort of steps to get into the bed, especially with the tailgate down, and especially when you are an old man like me.

Have one on my 15 OR. LOVE IT! Use it all the time. Toe tap it deploys another toe tap it retracts. From ground to step to tailgate. Fantastic for us old guys with bad paratrooper knees.

When I bought my Colorado I never thought I'd use those bumper steps, but ended up using them all of the time. I miss that feature.

This is from an install video on a second gen, but at 4:10 it shows you this step in action:

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
People that do off-roading adventures don't like them for the most part. Go to your dealer and find one on a new truck --then find out if the dealer will let you know who buys that truck. If that all works, then ask the new owner if they want it or not. You might be able to make a deal.
Mine came from a person up in Washington who did not like his.

I thought the step came standard on all the SR5’s? Unless they started doing it with the ‘18’s.

Well, the good thing is the price is coming down some compared to a year ago. It’s well worth it for those that utilize the bed a lot.

When I was purchasing my 2017 OR I tried to negotiate with the dealer to take it off. He said, "no." So, glad he did. I would say it is the most used factory accessory after the ignition key. I have drug it through rocks and mud, no problem and it protects that nice plastic bumper trim.

2018 SR5 built in November 2017, and purchased in Ventura, CA. A regional thing?

Nothing todo with being lazy. The truck comes with plastic bumper ends and no place to step when the tailgate is down. It just plain makes access to the bed easier.
