I was just wondering how the big Tacoma players feel about the new Atkinson v-6 I'm a new player just wondering if they are a good motor? I do know that direct and port injection can be a good thing compared to other vehicle brands just switching to direct injection.

It's a good motor. Get it to 3K and it sings.

It's a proven motor, my understanding Lexus has used it's for quite some time. Ive never researched it though. It's definitely a upper rpm motor unlike most truck motors that generate lots of low end. It really likes to run above 3k. It just takes some getting to get used to, I really like mine!

Underpowered, especially in comparison to the 4.0, other than that, and after the break in period, it’s okay.

Depends who you ask. I had three 2nd gens and always scratched my head at all the comments about how it's slow, and now that I have a 3rd gen I'm still scratching my head about all the complaints about the engine and transmission. Granted, I have an 18 and I'm sure part of that is that they've worked out most of the bugs that may have come with the new design. Bottom line, I love how both generations drive.

It only feels underpowered if you're unfortunate enough to drive an automatic.

My 2017 Sport MT kicks the snot out of anything my old 2011 SR5 AT could do.

Mine doesn't feel underpowered, learn how to modulate the pedal, and take off the ballerina slippers, and it'll drive just fine!!

Agree with Itsmermf. If you can't get the pedal all the way down to the firewall move you're seat forward. It takes more pedal input off the line but would blow the doors off a gen 2 truck. Throttle tip in probably designed that way for maximum mileage. Hit a certain point and it goes like a rocket unexpectedly. Will not be a problem after a couple of weeks and your foot learns to modulate the throttle more to your liking. People that can't seem to learn the reaction feel they like go to OV tune for a more linear throttle response or drive with ECT on all the time. Give yourself some time to get used to it. After break in plus 500 was my learning sweet spot.

Love my 18 offroad with manual trans. Loves higher rpm though and equates to crap mileage. I hope that 41k price was Canadian and not USD...

Still way too high for SR5. My previous '17 AC SR5 4x4 V6 was around 28K US, my current DCLB Sport 4x4 with premium was $30,200 USD.
