Has anyone painted/plastidipped their stock steelies and installed 265/75r16 tires?

Thanks guys. Seriously, we all have good looking SR builds. Currently planning on getting my SR ready for a road trip to the arctic circle and it’s been a year+ to get it to the point where I’m confident in its ability to get me there and back to Seattle. Happy Sunday.

Yes I have and it has worked out perfectly. It is a great alternative to buying new rims. It has lasted pretty good for me and would last longer if I would have done a little better job. One wheel needs re-done when I have the time and weather but it’s barely noticeable. I am just picky. Also the tire size increase really fills out the wheel well without too much sacrifice in mpg, well worth it in my opinion.

Awesome. How many coats do you recommend on each wheel? What tires do you recommend?

I think they recommend 3-4 coats but you would have to put it on pretty thick for that to work. I would suggest more and lighter coats to prevent runs. I think I did 6 light coats the first time but when I re-do them I will probably shoot for 8 light coats since it was still a touch thin in a couple spots. I went with the Falken Wildpeak at3w. I got them in the p-rated version to save a little weight and money since I don’t haul a ton or do any serious off-roading. They have been outstanding for my purposes. They are affordable, quiet and smooth on the highway, aggressive enough for anything I put them through, and they look great. They have held up great and worn evenly over the last 15k miles. They took a bit of extra weight and an extra trip back to the shop to get them balanced correctly but I would definitely buy them again. There is a thread about them on here. Hope this helps.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that to facilitate getting these tires sooner than I was planning, I was able to get $300 for the stock hankooks that had 6k miles on them. I sold those in two days on Craigslist and that paid for half of my new, bigger and better tires.

I’m not 100% certain but I think there’s a company called Gorilla that makes good black lug nuts. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen something about them on another thread before. I would start my search here.

Thanks for this pic. Looks like you have mud flaps too? I'm looking in to getting wild peaks in the same size on the same wheels and I don't want to remove my rockblokz. Any rubbing?

Yeah I just have the universal mudflaps from Pepboys. They fit fine and there is no rubbing whatsoever. I am not familiar with the rockblokz but as long as they are fairly flat against the wheel well you should be just fine.

Yeah they're pretty flat...and expensive lol. They have some adjustment too in case you get oversized tires or something

Honestly....my lack of knowledge here. I did not know there was a difference between the SR and SR5...never looked that close. I found the truck I liked and bought it. Simple as that.

So I am seeing a lot of dealership videos/pictures of 2018 SR Tacomas and they all have the MID display in the dash like the SR5s... Must be new on 2018s? All of Toyotas documentation still lists the crap display in the dash, but the pics/videos show otherwise.

Edit: Nvm, looks like it has been brought up already. Guess my search skills are better the second time around.

Looks like less and less reasons to bump up to an SR5

See the first post in this thread for the two different types of center displays. First pic is what the SR traditionally came with for ('16-'17). Second pic is off of an SR5. It looks like the '18 SR is coming with the display in the second pic now.
