Our only big power demands are my Cpap and the fridge. That’s why I went ahead and got the fridge. We can use it at the camp grounds for now and I have all my power demands so I can build a system that it will function with

I like a fridge, but the new super-duper icechests are really nice. The Walmart version is really good also but the higher end chests do work a smidge better. For a weekend the walmart will hold the ice as long as you pre-cool everything. I ice mine down twice a week at work and the water bottles will have ice in them by Friday.

Interesting. What I've been considering is the Tepui Kukenam with the KB Voodoo set up for just above the tonneau cover. Want to keep a low profile.

We may end up with a gen for backup but I can only do a little at a time. The Honda 2000 is what I was considering then I get to carry extra gas to

What I've seen with some around here is they build the cab height rack and the crap they pack isn't higher than the bed rails...and most of it goes in the RTT. So I like you're idea, though I still don't relish the idea of stepping off anything taller than the tailgate at 0300 to water a tree. And I know full well my wife ain't having any part of it.

It’s very simple and basic which is all we need. It provides a place to get out of the weather but when we’re out we like to be outside. We did stay at our ne campground last year that was really cramped in a city basically we didn’t care for that but it was basically just a substitute for a hotel room at that point. We are blessed with a bunch of beautiful state parks here in va and wildlife and was where you camp on your own we’re just starting this adventure which we hope will take us across the US

Part of selling the misses on camping is being off the ground away from things that crawl or slither. Have looked at the bed tents but would prefer a little more room than a 5' bed offers.

We have some 2000's and we have 3000's bolted on our service trucks. And I see a ton of 2000's out there the campers use...can't beat them. 3000 is a little large to be humping in and out of the truck bed by yourself though. Both (and the comparable Yamahas) are really good on gas. You'd have to run it a lot to burn through a tank in a weekend. I'd venture to say if you left on Friday after work and came home Sunday, you'd be fine on a tank of gas.

Neither will a fridge. They draw such a small amount of power and are so good at keeping cool they don’t have to run much. They also have low amp shut off so if the battery starts getting low they won’t run.
Besides, if you have your rig set up properly, which mine isn’t, your house battery will be isolated from your vehicle battery.
I’ve ran mine for 3 days in 90 degree heat without running the truck and never had a no start issue.

Powering it is not a problem. Will give you the point on putting a buck in one though. Course I wouldn’t use one of those high end coolers for that either.

My version of camping is a mummy bag with a ground cover and pad and I'm very comfortable . my mummy bag is a 4 season design that will keep me warm to 15° below zero

...and it goes back to what one's idea of camping is. This new tech stuff is really nice though.

Ah yes, the ol' sales pitch. I don't know that my wife would camp with me more than once. Her idea is a tent, but she hated my 21' travel trailer, though she liked the toilet, but she was claustrophobic in the trailer itself...o_O

So I'll run it by her one last time if she wants to go. Other than that I'm going for a small "square-drop" for day trips/over night/ normal weekend...it's less than an hour out there so not like it's a trek or anything like that.

...and I'm not going to spend a camping trip deboning a deer. Of course if I know I'm going any distance to bag a deer, I'm either bringing 2 icechests or being close enough to the house to bring it home and drop it off.

Looks like you had a great time Chris, and everyone else too!

I started out in the 70's sleeping in the back of my FJ55. Even do it once in awhile in my Taco although not if I can help it.

Up until I was 55 or so had no problems with a cot, shitter and shower tent and wood stove.

You get up in the middle of the night to pee you damn well better put a log in the stove

But now I don't want to mess with all of that. And I want comfort. For my back, shoulder with the screw in it, both knees and ankles. Not sure what the answer is for me but I do know that it has changed dramatically in the last few years. But I still want room, lots of room.

Good luck and hope your camper works out for you it sure is a nice setup. I have no idea what I'm going to end up with. For now renting a cabin in the middle of no where 3 weeks a year works for me. Once I retire and travel not so, much pockets are only so deep.
