Honestly I really just like the modular nature of this rack and I'm even considering taking the time to grind the powdercoat off and prime/paint/ clear coat it. It would be a lot of work but if I do it right it should be one and done. It won't be easy getting in some of those corners, though. I have a lot of free time anyway, might as well give it a go.

I just picked up my rack pieces being media blasted , they turned out pretty good and the surfaces are roughed up enough for some good self etching primer adhesion.

sorry guys, it's not powder coat. it's wrinkle finish. my tailgate guard was rusting 3 months after installing. paint coming off the edges and not because they were being bumped into by something. guys got some nice products, just needs to tighten up on the finish

I'm just waiting patiently for you to get your rack, experience what we've experienced, and see how you handle it.

Highly recommend anyone looking into this rack whos having second thoughts to check different cities on craigslist particularly if your on the east coast (I saw some listed while hunting for secondhand sliders the other day). I picked my premium rack up with the bike and tonneau brackets up for 500 dollars and it came with a tonneau I didn't need( Already had one) so after I sold that I'm 250 into an 1100 set up minus the 4 hours/gas I had to drive to get it. Mine is rusting but at 250 dollars I'm just gonna sand the living hell out of it and do a rattle can job.

While obviously I can attest to the lack of quality powder coat the rack itself is definitely sturdy. Personally if I were the vendor I would just wash my hands of this powder coat crap and sell them bare.

This doesn’t seem to be something new. To me it appears as though it’s a well known issue and nothing really has been done for it. The powder coat if you can call it thag is weak as hell. And the fact that you pay that much for a rack only to have it rust in less than two months like mine is a joke. More people need to be aware of this. The fact that he knew this was going on and didn’t bother to mention it on the site is irritating. More of a buyer beware at this point for people so they aren’t blindsided like we were with immediate rust.

If that dude wants to hate good for him. We will keep informing people of the situation @tomwil

My rack arrived a few days ago, it had a few spots on it that were chipped so I washed it, did some touch up paint and clearcoated it. IMG_3371.jpg I'm hoping this makes a difference!

Hopefully, I found more rust on mine. One day I’ll remove the RTT and redo the paint job myself and make sure it’s done right

Problem with clear coating it is unless you get a good quality automotive one (not just a rattle can) it'll just degrade and flake off. : /
Did they blast clear through the old coat?

Yes, the media blasting cut all the way to bare metal as i wanted. Looking to hit it with self etching primer, and a few coats of black. Not too concerned with the clear coat, as long as i can sand and touch up, ill be okay with that.

    Stock for. Ow
So by my count he’s on the 3rd powder coating outfit. I wanted the tailgate cap and bedrails but I think I’ll wait a little bit. See how this new powder coater works out

+1 vote here for the bare option. Not to mention when I scratch it. Rattle can would be so much easier to touch up

Paint and or powercoat won’t stick to hard edges...that’s fact. If all the edges were eased this wouldn’t be an issue...a coating needs to be uniform and even throughout in addition to being on a properly prepared surface. Get rid of the built in problems and you’ll be ok.

My work started out in powdercoating and we still do a lot of it. It will stick perfectly fine to hard edges as long as prep and application are followed.

True being meticulous a hard edge can be done...but we both know the eased edge will win in durability every time. These racks are made of steel expands and contracts breaks the surface tension of the powder coat at the edge...the photos are pretty convincing

Sounds like keeping things in stock is an issue. I was told that replacement parts will be sent out once they are back in stock (about 2 weeks)

2 weeks pass, I send an email. I was told they are sold out again and more parts are coming. My issue personally was made known in February.

Long story short, if you are wanting long bed, mid height. It's gonna be a minute.
