    Hi,
Im about to buy a new truck for work and wanted to know what you guys think about these two options.

I love Tacomas and have probably had about 12 of them by now. If I had it my way I would have one from each year ever made. my personal truck is a 12 DC 4x4 LB, also have an 81' garage queen weekend warrior as well.

Anyway, right now I am looking to replace an older 03' 4dr Prerunner with 175k for something with lower miles. This is my work truck, I do residential service work.

I found a couple access cab prerunners that will work fine as work trucks imo.
One the 09' has 24k miles. so its been driven on average 2600 miles a year. wtf!?
This one is a TRD sport in the pyrite mica / gunmetal grey color. looks stock, looks clean.

the other is a 14' that looks exactly the same except its just a base model. (no trd) but it has a hood scoop so maybe the decals were removed??
both are prerunners, both are pyrite color. but this one has 104,000 miles.

I don't know the history as I haven't talked to the sellers yet.

    Both trucks are around 15k. 14,500 for 09 15k for the 14'

Which one to get? I'm stumped. Like the newer interior and front end better. But the low miles are very tempting. we don't have cold winters where I live, its warm year round.

    Thanks for any advice

    Rob

    Low mileage IMHO.

You can always swap the stock 2009 interior and exterior with 2012+ parts as you please.

    Same as everybody else...
I'd go with the low miles also, my 09 has been rock solid for the three years I've had it. The only thing I've replaced other than routine maintenance stuff was both the front wheel bearings. I'm at 108k now and she runs like a clock. I would make sure that all of the recalls ha been done like the leaf pack and frame.

I’d go with whichever had the best documented maintenance history.

    Whats wrong with the ‘03?

Seems like its just broken in unless its all banged up outside.

If you maintain it properly it will last alot longer.

True, and maybe it’s gone 24000 miles with no oil change.

Not sure if it matters to you but the 14 will have a different interior than the 09 and will have different equipment. As far as I know they had the same safety equipment and traction controls.

I am confused though, I thought trd means 4x4 no matter what, is there really such a thing as a trd prerunner? I also thought hood scoops mean trd sport?

Trd does NOT mean 4x4. They have trd off-road prerunners. It's a 2x4 with rear locker. Waste of a locker imo.

low miles 09 all the way..... like said those secondary air pumps suck big time, very costly when they go out, and most do.

Hoods come off and get traded.

Trd sports and offroads come as prerunners also

I'd personally get the truck with the lower miles if I'm going to be using it for work. That is of course if it was maintained properly and not abused.

The air pumps do not fail all the time,it was mostly a few 2012 models.I4 Tacomas have always had them.Anyway its a $10 fix too add a different filter.
