Back in March as some know my White 17 DCSB Taco was cooked by Cleveland Ford on an oil change where they used the O’Reileys oil filter housing left out the tube in the middle and also left the engine oil 2 quarts low. Well the entire time all the way to the end they denied it and Toyota said it’s not warranty and we aren’t paying for it. They (Ford) messed around for about 2-3 weeks not calling me and not responding to my calls. Well finally after Ford saw that I had a copy of the service report from Toyota of Cleveland clearly stating the engine damage was done by Ford, Ford tried to act like the good guys and say we will pay for it and they did... but at a discount price to Toyota because they are owned by the same group, oh well. We waited 2 more weeks for parts to get to Toyota for them to replace the short block but after conversation I decide it was best for me to get away from the situation. I didn’t want to be working and paying for something that’s not really what I paid for just to turn around if I ever sold it and it be worth nothing because it’s had a major repair in less than 25k miles. So I had Toyota of Cleveland find me a Cement 2018 DCSB OR and I am now in a brand new truck. If you are from the Chattanooga or Cleveland , TN area stear clear of Cleveland Ford because I am not the only person that has had problems with them.

I did get Toyota to put on 265/75/16 BFG KO2s and I absolutely love the look of the truck!!!

Congrats on the new truck. Why would you take your old truck to the Ford Dealer for an oil change?

I bought it from there and had 3 free oil changes and that was the last one before I was going to start taking it to Toyota

Edit: It was used when I bought it 6 months ago

A woman I know bought a new Fiesta from Grindstaff Ford in Elizabethton TN and she took it in for the first service and they drained it and never filled it and her motor blew a few miles down the road when they left the dealership. They weren’t going to give her a new car just try to fix the old one. Ford dealerships seem to be sketch to me at least in TN.

Yeah they weren’t giving me a new one they were just fixing my 17 while saying they didn’t cause it. I just traded while I could and got away from it.

Over in the 2nd Gen Tacoma section the same exact thing happened, they grabbed an engine from the Junkyard to replace it with, has nothing to do with the brand of the dealership as they all make mistakes.

I know hindsight 20/20, but I would never ever take my Toyota to a Ford dealership for any kind of service work, unless it was some sort of an emergency.

Not a knock against Ford. I wouldn't take an F150 to Toyota, either.

Exactly, the chance of them having correct specialty tools or parts is minimal.

Are you 3'rd gen guys staying clear of doing your own oil changes because of the need to drop the additional skid plate?

I always take mine to north Georgia Toyota in dalton. They do a pretty good job.

It was simply because I had 3 free ones and planned on taking my service to Toyota after those were done. Also after they broke the part they drove further to O’Reileys to get that housing than it was to drive to Toyota less than 2 miles away.
You live and learn I’m just glad I didn’t have to pay anything out of pocket for the repair and Toyota offered what they did for the truck which would have beat anybody else’s offer after what had happened to it.

What all did they break? Is the oil filter housing torqued to spec when screwing in a filter!!??

The plastic OEM oil filter housing when either taking it off or putting it on I’m not sure wAs what they broke. They replaced it with a metal one and then left out the tube in the middle and left it 2 quarts low.

Copy. I'll have to search on the forum to see if breaking the Housing is a common problem.

They said it was caused by it being a plastic housing and the tool being metal

I am skipping the free oil changes on mine, it does take a few extra minutes to change but it's no big deal.

They probably had the incorrct tool, the torque value is low so there is no reason they should have broke the housing.
