Set a new personal best for mpg. 26.9 35 Miles 90% highway at 68 mph.

With 103 it was about 25.7, stock it was 23 to 24.

I originally didn’t think 104 was needed, but once I installed it, man, even smoother then 103. Crazy

I'm getting 16 mpg mixed driving on 1.04 91 driving like a granny on a stock truck aside from a bed mounted tool box that is empty 95% of the time...my Tacoma's mileage has sucked from day one...tune or no tune, 87 or 91 and after I replaced the throttle position sensor. I know it's not my driving because on every other car I've ever had that was running well, I got better than factory claimed mpg for those cars. Everyone else reporting improved mpg with the tune is driving me nuts...o_O I've never noticed any noise coming from my fuel pump, but since they are a known issue I'm beginning to wonder if this could be a problem...

Nothing, I’m pretty conservative overall on the pedal. The route is about a 500ft drop over 35 Miles so not too crazy. On the way home I see about 23 mpg, maybe 22 if I mash the gas coming home (70 plus). Phoenix is also about a 1000ft above sea level which seems to make a big difference from higher altitude.

In do have rock sliders, bed cover, and a skid plate

Not done a run with 1.04 yet, I lost about 2mpg on 1.03

Is that miles per US gallon or miles per imperial gallon?

I only ask because when I first got my truck I was wondering what all the crying was about. Until I was fiddling with the display at stop light and realized the dealer had set the mpg read out for imperial gallons - which will read 20% higher. :annoyed:

I hate all your MPG posts.

Drove from SLC to Idaho Falls on Friday. 1.04 91 octane tune.

33" tires, 4.88 gears, roof top tent mounted. 30mph headwind and trying to maintain 75mph got me 13.8 mpg for the trip. Most of the drive was in 5th gear and would drop to 4th at any up-hill.

On the way home (with an extra 500lbs in the bed) I averaged 14.5 with about a 20mph cross wind.

the RTT gives me a huge amount of drag so I think that has more impact on the MPG than anything else but these numbers are still abysmal.

I'm just like you - I'll get 18 or so on the highway, 20 if I'm on 2-lanes <60mph, and 16 in the city. I do a lot of short trips during the week including stop/go commutes so for that kind of driving overall my tank averages are around 17. If I lived in the country and my driving was on slower, flat, open roads I'm sure I could get the 20-23 many see.

I will say I've always seen a bit better MPGs, counterintuitively, when I don't granny it and just GO to get up to speed then cruise. Babying it in my experience often results in lower MPGs. I'm not saying WOT all the time but give it some love and let it accelerate quickly then cruise is what seems to work for me. I also often have seen about the same or BETTER MPGs on the HIGHWAY driving in ECT (stock or tuned) so it defies logic...

Edit: while I'm stock tires/intake/exhaust I do have 90 lbs in steps, 75 lb rolling tonneau, and a Prinsu on top that's probably at least slightly impacting MPGs (especially in wind)

Well, I'll try not being so easy on the throttle and see what happens...I don't think it can get any worse...lol

I got the highest MPGs ive gotten on a trip this weekend with my fully armored, fully loaded, heavy DCLB. It was about 240 miles and I averaged about 19mpgs. This was accomplished by driving 65-70 and getting a break from the wind by being in the back of the convoy of yotas coming back from the beach. Im on 1.04 and running the 91 tune.

All stock Limited 4x2. Just sat with cruise at 72mph on a flat Florida interstate. Nothing special. Interstate was empty though.
The stock Michelins are very road oriented.

I get 28+ on a 72-75mph interstate run pretty much every time depending on traffic, confirmed to within 1mpg (OBC reads 1mpg high-ish).

The perks of having a road going, stock truck.

Exactly lol. Warm temps help as well, less warm up time. I know I'm cheating a bit with my location and boring stock truck.

Question for the folks commenting about the 5-6 shift at highway speeds.. What are you guys experiencing, is it dancing between the two?

From my observation, it wont go into 6th on its own until its over 68-70mph, but above 62-65mph if I feather the pedal it will shift into 6th and hold it similar to how 1.03 did. Not sure what the technical term is here, but it just seems like the load on the engine to allow it to shift to 6th is a tad too low. Once it's in 6th it isn't shifting between the two. I'm stock on 265/70R17s.

I'm already seeing +2 mpg here in VA now that the temps are consistently in the 70s. Can't wait to see what it does when it gets to 90.
