Meh. The increase was a fluke, really, so it's not something we expected year over year.

How was the RI spot for those that went wheeling this weekend? The few recent big storms mess it up at all?

Overall it wasn't bad - dusty with a few puddles. The area near the beginning that has the massive rolls with mud at each dip (aka Sebring sinker area) was a bit muddy but mostly dried cake mud. The Rocky hill was surprisingly easier this time - most of the rocks washed down the hill. The trails themselves were dusty and there are definitely a lot more "Private Property" signs however I'm not sure if that affects the trail since they're marked trails now (someone put up sign names). The Private property signs were all on tree's to the side of certain trails and looked like it was just stating that the land off the trail behind the sign was private property. We saw a few other lonesome jeeps rolling around along with some ATV/Dirtbike guys scooting around at high speeds.

How old is the system? If it was installed after 1985ish, take a quick trip to your local board of health and ask to get a copy of the septic as-built for your address (if it exists). That should of been certified by a professional engineer/surveyor and would have much more accurate dimensions than an inspector who did a field sketch in their truck while eating lunch. The dimensions are *probably* copied from that as-built by the Title V inspector, but I would err on the side of caution and get it yourself to confirm.

Regardless, the hill has to be a minimum of 15' away from the last trench to prevent breakout (poo-water seeping through and coming to ground surface). If you are 25' away, no concerns there. No way any work on the hill would affect the system. What are you going to try and do to fix the drainage? Also, what is at the bottom of the hill (another house, roadway, pond, woods, etc..)?

Only reason I ask is that I have had countless clients come to me after trying to fix some minuscule issues because the Town found out about it and threw the hammer at them. Send me a PM and I'll gladly take a quick look at your site using available information and let you know if there is anything you should be keeping in mind while working on it.

*Edit: Just caught up and saw that there are no dates on age of system or plans on record. If you have pipe in trench for your field, its not *that* old of a system. They used to just use concrete leach pits after the tank and got away from those in the mid 80's.

I don't actually know. It could be as old as 1957 (when the house was built), or it could have been replaced at one point. The original owner died about 4 years ago when the last guy bought it, and I bought it a year ago. The Title V report said no records were available.

So a hill like that definitely wouldn't be part of the system? It's probably a 25 ft drop, very steep, and it's maybe 35 ft from the D-Box, 25 ft from where the final trenches are shown on his drawing. He has it listed as two 30' trenches off the D-Box, then a 12' with "possibly" two 30' trenches on a tee off of that.

I think the septic itself is in good shape. It passed Title V twice in a 3 year span. My report has "is in good condition" written for just about everything. I just want to be confident I'm not going to be disturbing the system if I dig into that hill.

The hill has to be at least 15' away from the trenches. I wouldn't be too worried about disrupting the system, as long as you are not drastically altering the hill by digging into it. A safe test would be to run the water in your house for about an house to flood your septic then go start digging into the hill on a dry day - if you start to come into saturated soils and wet areas, time to back off. Do you think the hill was created for the system, or just a natural hill that they put the septic near?

    I PM'd you.

I'm not even sure I'm going to dig into the hill. Some of it got washed down, so I want to fill it in again. I might dig at the bottom to try to redirect the water so it doesn't create such soft muddy ground at the bottom anymore.

I wouldn't know, I'm not allowed in Canada anymore.

I lived in White Plains NY for a year when I was 5.

I guess, if you're going to be a Dodge guy, that's the way to do it... own a whole fleet so you can just go to the next one when they break down :stirthepot:

Yeah but they're supposed to all be the same, so I can swap parts around from the ones that don't run to the one that does, right?

No, I think you did it right. If you own a bunch of the same vehicle, they'll all be prone to the same point of failure. By owning multiple, you get to experience the vast array of mechanical disasters :D

I don't remember much of it at least what was nearby. Moved back to MA within 12 months.

Trust me I'm not trying to go there. Winter plus some family there I'd rather not see again lest it get nasty.

But since you have to get a passport now, I've heard my criminal record will not be allowed there.

    A valid point.

Although, it should be noted that the only vehicle I've had in recent history that left me stranded was the Ford. In the rain. And it took the dealer over a week to fix it, lol.

And for a loaner, they gave me a shoebox instead of something comparable to the vehicle they were servicing.

You need to leave your tow mirrors flipped out at all times to complete the transformation.
