    Mine has the locker so I don't know that they're the same but mine takes just under 3. You could get 4 and return 1 if you don't end up needing it.

    No LSD sticker means you don’t need the additive but it won’t cause trouble. You do need a GL5 gear oil in your favorite weight range and brand. Three quarts should fill it with a little left over if you don’t spill any. Put it in until it just starts to run out. Stop and wait for a few minutes for it to run down the axles then top it off. You’re done! If you like spending money buy the really expensive stuff. If you’re a cheap ass buy the house brand at your nearest auto parts store. There are many choices in between that will work also. Change it regularly for good results.

    I’m pretty sure I’ve got an open diff, it says A04A in my door and I guess that’s the axel code for an open diff

    So my truck went in today for the frame CRC and I asked the service writer to quote me a price to change the diff oil. My back is kinda sketchy and I really didn't want to crawl under my truck, two years ago they did it for 90 bucks. The cost this time was 238 bucks! They told me it's because they have to use a "special fluid additive". I'm presuming they mean the LSD additive, which my 09 PreRunner doesn't even need. Rather than argue with her I've just decided to either do it myself or buy some M1 or.RP and do it myself. What a rip off.

    Getting ready to pull the trigger on 3 quarts of Red Line
    $29 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)
    75W-90 (57904) from Amazon. I'll either change it this weekend or get my local mechanic to do it. Either way it ain't 238 bucks but I won't be getting the "special additive".

    Mine has the mechanical LSD so I had to put in the “special additive” which was less than $8. I used non synthetic 75w90 Valvoline. Total cost was under $40 and it took three trips under the truck. Charging $238 is what gets dealerships a bad rep. Hope you get some help for your back issues.

    Is there any advantage, if at all, of getting a heavier than required oil? I've heard that a heavier one is better for a higher mileage component.

    Also, so a 2011 PreRunner, does not have a mechanical limited slip diff? So I guess you don't need to worry about any special additives.

    All the usual diesel truck mods- fuel system upgrade, programmer, CAI, intake manifold, 60MM stealth turbo
    No advantage at all and it will actually hinder the economy of your truck. This stuff is mainly meant for big trucks consistently towing heavy loads. As it gets hotter it’ll get thicker than it is when you pour it out of the bottle.

    Thanks man, I've been fighting my sciatic nerve for the least few years, every once in awhile it likes to remind me it's still there. I'm gonna take the ticket in and show the service manager. Not sure if ill get an answer or if he even cares. The last time I had the diff oil changed was Sept 2016, the bill was 77 bucks and change. Maybe dick move but what the hell.

    I ended up getting the Lucas high performance 75-90 oil. The old stuff was still pretty clean and had a golden tint to it still, guessing the previous owner must have changed it not long ago so that’s good. But either way had to add the new stuff

    Gear oil doesn’t get black like engine oil. It just usually stinks. Is the Lucas a conventional or synthetic? Guessing conventional?
