Bed Storage Bin Locks

    I searched the forums here, but found nothing.

    Curious if anyone has ever tried to retro fit something like the below in the pre-existing storage bins in the truck bed. I'm thinking an individual could pop out one of the manual turn knobs and replace with a lock like this and have a locking bin. Sure, still plastic, so someone could snap it if so inclined, but would at a minimum keep some kid from stealing tiedown straps.

    Yes, I am aware there are replacement doors to be purchased that do this, but they are more than I'm wanting to spend on this. I figured this has the potential to be an $8 solution.

    Yup, takes a little work to enlarge the hole but very easy. I bought all three keyed alike from my local Ace Hardware.

    Best cheap mod I’ve done. As you stated the door could still be pried but locks are a little piece of mind and keep the curious honest people honest.

    Fab fours front and rear bumpers, B.A.M.F. weld on rock sliders, softopper, removed mud flaps and D-Badged everything. Icon 2.5 Extended Travel coil-overs, Total Chaos upppers, 2.0 Icon extended travel shocks with the resi's and Dekar Leaf packs.
    I installed a set of these, http://mobtownoffroad.com/product/storage-door/. They worked great, had to do a little work to the driver side because the hole wasn’t long enough for the lock to fully rotate, but nothing that a file or dremel couldn’t fix.

    Yeah. I had seen those, but they cost more than anything I would ever store in there. Just looking for a cheap solution. I’ll do some hunting for some diy locks. I’ll post back with my findings.

    The arms weren’t long enough to reach the hole but some scrap metal, a little filing and a bit of bending solved the problem. Also as stated above get the locks keyed alike and non-retaining so you can pull the key out once unlocked.
