Best advise: trip to the vet. Hair loss is certainly not normal and a check up is certainly warranted. Never had a cat with those symptoms but I hope you get it figured out.

Thanks Craig. Taking him this week. Just worried about my boy. He's definitely my favorite, but none of my cats have ever had medical problems. Just seems really weird to have this happen all of the sudden. As they get older I always prepare to say goodbye, but it still sucks. Last cat I had stayed with me for 19 years- that was rough.

The rescue that we have dealt with make you sign a contract stating you will not declaw amongst other things. Not sure how binding it is but I have now problem with it what do ever. I’ve had cats a long time ago that I had declawed and now I couldn’t imagine doing it to any of mine.

Louisa taking care of her old brother Albert before we had to let him go 3D1C51A7-0DFB-48E9-B6CF-4B33BAC29F83.jpg Introducing Amos to TWimage.jpg It’s been a couple of months since we had to say good bye to our Albert after having him for 20 years. Our youngest cat Louisa loved him and was by his side until we had to call it. We decided the time was right and decided to adopt again. We were lucky enough to rescue our new little boy Amos. He’s a 5 month old seal point Siamese with a broken tail. Louisa is being a total bitch to him and now I regret that we introduced them too soon. I was banking on her taking care of him like she did with Albert. Hope things will improve- it’s only been a week

It's actually illegal in lots of other countries and considered animal cruelty. It's the same as cutting of all of your fingers at the first knuckle, and often leads to life long pain.

Same here. I was horrified and felt guilty after I learned just exactly what it did. Thank goodness the only cat I did that to adored me.

Did you slowly introduce them? It seemed to work for us. We kept the kitten in a separate room for quite a few days then slowly started the introduction

I second the advice of going to the vet. My wife has worked at a veterinary hospital for the last 12 years. Unfortunately cats are exceptionally good at hiding/masking symptoms. If he is 13 years old it wouldn’t hurt to get his blood work run, a full CBC and profile. This along with a visual check up will give you a much clearer picture of his overall health and what could possibly be the cause of the hair loss. It sounds like something that should be dealt with relatively soon. Good luck! I hope they get it figured out and get him feeling better soon.

We had them separated for 3 days but the 2 girls obviously knew he was there. On the 3rd day we did some brief introductions that were just so so. During the day they are split up and get to see each other st night. Everything right now is supervised.

Try to feed them treats near each other may associate good things with the new one.

Update: We took Abigail to the vet (new place) on Saturday to get her rabies and other shots. We are trying to board her at this place (with the "cat condo's"). The vet (very nice) came in and talked to us a bit and we told her about Abigail's medical issues (hyperthyroidism) yada yada. She asked how old her was. We told her 15-16 years old we believe (my wife adopted her around 9 years ago and they believe she was 6-7 then).

So anyways the vet asked if she has been boarded before and we said no not the time we've had her. The vet is worried that she might not do well with the boarding so she wants us to bring her for a day/night before we go away next month. Now my wife is worried that she won't be able to board Abigail next month and we won't be able to go away on our trip...
I am going to drop Abigail off tomorrow morning before work and she will stay tomorrow (Tuesday) during the day, Tuesday night and then I'll pick her up Wednesday at some point. Hope she does well. :fingerscrossed:

The vet was super nice and just wanted us to be aware that not every animal (not just cats) do well with boarding which we appreciate but also are stressing. We might switch to this vet permanently even after boarding.

Have you considered a pet sitter that comes to your house? It’s a lot less stressful for the kitties, especially seniors. That is what we do. Just a thought. :)

Mad respect to the vet that puts your cats well being over easy income for the vets office. We use a cat sitter and it’s well worth it to us and actually a little cheaper than the vet. Even if it was more I’d pay it. Our lady charges $15 a visit regardless of the amount of cats. These guys are like or kids and totally heart breaking to leave them- especially when we both leave together. When we get home Suki reminds is that we left her. Yes they are smart enough to hold a grudge. I would ask around, maybe a neighbor, a friend or a child of either who may want to earn a few extra bucks. I would worry about your old girl too!
