It's nice to get away from town for a little bit. Looking for other places to go around Portland. Anyone have any cool back roads or anything? Preferably somewhere I can :infantry:too!
I was thinking of that trail around Mt. Hood where old wagons used travel on.

I'm not crazy into accessory knowledge, but from what I've gathered from people who do know their shit, and lights that's I've used, the streamlight tlr 1 HL will not disappoint.

So I’m thinking of moving from WA to OR. Pluses / minuses? Seattle area to the north coast, Cannon Beach to be precise.

Pluses = Beach life, ELK everywhere!!!!! close to astoria (Costco/Fred Meyer/Home Depot), Far enough south of the Columbia to get out of the fog in the summer.

Minuses = Cannon beach/Seaside are the busiest tourist towns on the coast for the youngsters. offseason can be very boring and if you dont like watching the storms roll in there is nothing to see.

As much as I would love to invite you to move to Oregon or Washington, both are getting pretty full. I heard Idaho was nice.

    Just kidding!

Unfortunately where I am in Oregon just west of PDX at the base of the coast range, it is really getting crazy with more apartments, houses, streets and such going in each day. It's going to get really really expensive to live in this area soon. Half million and up for houses greater than 1500 sq ft. Apartments are $1200 a month minimum for a reasonably small space 500-950 sq ft. $1500+ for anything over 1000 sq ft.

Being able to hit the road to the coast and be in Seaside or Tillamook in about 1.5hrs, or Lincoln City or Depoe Bay in 2 hours is really nice. The coast range has lots of camping areas, the cascades have tons more. The coast has sand dunes and beach to to wheel on, both the coastal and cascade ranges provide great wheeling as well.

    Beer!
Ridiculous amount of micro brews available, as well as various vineyards, and saki available.

If you can locate somewhere in between major cities, you may do well on finding some land to go with the house. A 1-2 hour commute to the fun places will keep you in check, and probably not overwhelm you with daily traffic.

If you decide to live on the west side of PDX and work, try to get a job on that side as well. Likewise if you decide to live on the east side, try to get your job over on that side. Everything leading into downtown PDX is a major traffic headache twice a day mostly because of the road layouts and lack of lanes in that area.

Waldo lake is an awesome place. I read somewhere that it is one of the purest bodies of water on the planet.

    Purer than Crater Lake even!

I really want to get back out on Waldo in Hobie Adventure Island.

Plus=no sales tax and cheap to register car
Minus=income tax that rapes your buttholz. Oregon steals 9.9% of my pay right out of my check, then gets 1.2% of my house every year on top of that. In return you get the third worst graduation rate in the country and a PERS system that is about to collapse. It's a bargain really.

It's not that bad. You don't have to pump your own gas and sometimes the tax man uses lube. This year they sent every taxpayer a "kicker" check for overpaid taxes. Everyone was so excited to get a couple hundred of their own hard earned dollars back they forgot they were stolen from them in the first place. They also forgot that the kicker check is taxable income and they will have to pay taxes on that. Lol.

I love Cannon Beach; been there a few times. I'm one of those tourists and proud to admit it. I have a house in Durango, CO and it's a tourist town too. Be happy that you get to live in one of the best places in the US. Tourists are all jealous of you because you get to live there full time.

Cannon Beach will be the destination, but turns out I may have to buy a house in Seaside while I get my bearings down there (job etc) waiting for the house I want in Cannon Beach to be ready. BUT, I've heard the crime rate, especially property crime, is way high in Seaside compared to a lot of other places. Anybody have any input one way or the other?
