So! I got the bluetooth hooked up, the only issue I'm having is my 12V source must be wrong, or my ground is finiky.
I get sound from the Dongle but the CD signal cuts in and either takes priority or is louder than my bluetooth.

I can hear it turn on in the background and play music, its just being drowned by the cd.

I have a few moments tonight to pull the radio out and try another source. I'm thinking this might be best completed with a headunit from a 2009+ that has an aux input. They're pretty cheap when available.

    @Nitsud

I'll tag you when I get another chance to get into the headunit. Picked up some new sodering iron tips and was installing some skids last night....

    always takes longer than expected.

Just a thought, but has any tried using a ferrite bead to cut the noise coming from the power? I don't have a lot of electrical knowledge, but I believe that placing a ferrite bead on the left and right cable close to the solder point would help with interference.

    Sorry for bumping...

I am attempting this on the 98 Tacoma stock radio (no cassette, just single cd player)

I dont see any rch or lch labels. Anybody able to identify left, right, and ground?

The guide I think was built for the 05-08 model radio.

So i imagine/hope the lch/rch is there somewhere just labeled differently or not at all

    Figured it out.

Ended up taking the whole head unit apart and found labels for the cd reader connector on the back of the circuit board.

    Works great.

I have bought a 6+6 connection aux cable for the back of the stereo system on my 05 tacoma which would allow me to have an interface aux. But now I am thinking of buying the bluetooth dongles and have it of course bluetooth. Ive seen bluetooth 6+6 connections but they range from $40-160. So if you dont want to soder anything you dont have to. Some are from GROM another is GTA, and the cheap ones are the chinese versions. Im still waiting for my connection to arrive first then ill buy the bluetooth dongle and try it out! But hope this helps out anyone wanting an aux or bluetooth on their tacomas or similar occasion!

Anybody else use one of the Grom setups? Seems like it would be pretty easy

So I had something a little different happen on this mod... I did it last night, went great, no left over screws... everything works as it should EXCEPT...........when I'm using my media player (samsung galaxy phone) and I skip to the next track.. it makes a loud pops and kicks out of aux mode and back to CD mode and immediately starts playing the cd..... To get it working again I have to hit another button like the am/fm and then hit the button disc again it will go back to playing my media player...If I put an album on and just let it play..... it won't do it.... it only happens if I skip to the next track.... It's like there's a little electrical silence/glitch/pop when I switch songs and that makes it goes back to CD mode..

Thanks for this write up. Did it last night and it turned out great. My only other non-plumbing soldering experience ever was fixing my compass. It was definitely at the edge of my skill set but it came out great. I did panic when I tested it before reassembly and it sounded like trash...a little grounding goes a long ways. Sounds top notch, I get to keep my stock head unit and I don't have to use a terrible fm transmitter.

I don't have the soldering gear/skill but I had that done for $15 by a guy who did a gorgeous job. The rest was pretty simple. Genius mod, I love it. Best part is some dickwad at a stereo shop shit on the idea and said it would cost me $300 by the time I was done making one of his crappy decks a better option.

Hey, I tried this at my corolla 2003 and I soldered the wires on the CD player side. But when I connect my phone to jack I only here noise. A lot of noise and nothing else! And also my phone doesn't show that headphones has been attached to it. Any help would be appreciated!

After finding this post a few months ago and debating whether or not I should try, I did today. If you find this thread and are considering, let me just say that this was my first soldering ever and it was tough but I got the job done completely in about two and a half hours with reinstallation and everything. The hardest part was trying to find a spot that I could easily cut for the new aux port. I chose the one in the photo, but if I can change it later somehow to be up near the FM station presets I will. Thought it would be out of the way more but not the case. Also included a photo of where I grounded the cables and I get no static at all while charging/silent with a CD with music playing. THANK YOU.

Is it a loud static noise? I was getting this at first because my right and left cables were not properly attached to the aux port input.

Finally there is no problem. I must firstly connect my phone, play a song and THEN turn on the car so it can bypass the cd. And if the phone doesn't play something for 2-3 seconds then turns to cd automatically and hearing this disturbing noise.

The annoying thing is that turning off the audio system isn't enough, I must completely turn off the engine.

    Any ideas?
