Old Man Emu setups on 1st gens

No different than the 882 vs 881 coil on the same shock. It won't make a difference I don't believe. I wouldn't modify a spring just because is could be a bit sketchy getting it to sit right on the spring seat. I guess if you cut the top it would be okay. Still pretty sketch.

 

Can i run the 881 coils and a top spacer for the full 3 inch lift on stock shocks? or would i have to upgrade

You would need different shocks.

 

You could cut them, I wouldn't recommend it personally.

Haven't put them on yet. The few people I could find on this forum running 882's on a prerunner said it was a rough ride and also needed uca's because of excessive lift. I'm exploring all my options before I fight them on and have to pay for an alignment . I will let you know when I put them on.

 

882 and billies on top notch!! How much lift did that get you?Is your rig a 4x4? What kinda gear is that up front ?

 

20mm difference. All I'm thinkin is if people are running 881 with 10mm spacer for the 3" lift , then why not shave 10mm off the 882 and not have to use the spacer.

 

Total lift on my 4x4 I'm not 100% sure but maybe 2.5-3". Initially ride was harsh without any added weight (which I didn't have up front). Now ride is much better with the weight of the trail-gear tube bumper and Smittybuilt 9500 winch. Don't forget to add the differential drop kit.

Got my OME lift installed yesterday. 883's up front, Nitrochargers all around, SPC Light Racing UCA's, Dakars in rear, no AAL, BFG 255/85/16 KO2's on stock 16x7 steelies. Although I am thinking I should have gotten the AAL, b/c the leafs look flat to me. I just have the tires and all prior stock suspension that was removed in the bed, can't weigh that much. Anywho, I love the look of it, rides pretty rough, and I had a 3 hour drive home from the place I got everything installed, even got an alignment right after.

 

Looks nice, man it still flatten out? I think its time for custom leafs.

 

Every set of 1st gen dakars I’ve ever seen are very flat from the beginning. Mine were flat-ish from day 1. I feel pretty comfortable in saying it’s normal for that particular pack.

Thanks! Glad to know I am not the only one who has experienced this. I did take everything out of the bed of the truck and it seems to look a little better.

 

I used the OME AAL on my Dakars with the camper top. You should consider them no more than they cost. Just the top and I would be fine but any gear or a trailer and the rear end squats without the AAL

 

@climber-420, how'd you score your steelies?

 

I purchased them when I lived in Denver many years ago. Some guy had them on CL for like $50 for all 4. I couldn't pass it up. They are the stock toyota's 16x7. They have the oval by the tire stem. I have read that some do, and some don't.

 

Yeah. Those are from 2nd gens, I believe. I've read that the backspacing differs between the oval and non-ovals. I've got a devious plan to trade my old starfish wheels for non-oval spares, or just buy them outright. Gonna retire the 17s when the tires give it up. That's still a ways off, though.

In other news, ordered bushings, tie-rod ends and miscellaneous hardware today for the refit. Moving money and ordering the OME setup from Wheeler's tomorrow!

 

When I got my install done yesterday, they said I didn't need the extended brake line, and didn't have time to put it on. So now I have an extra I guess in the future if I need one. Also, I would just chop the exhaust, and not use the relocation bracket if that is provided from Wheeler's.
