Am I being "played" by the dealer?

Interesting. I was some what concerned about this myself but it all worked out. I spoke to my local DMV and they said I should be able to buy the truck without paying any tax and pay it when I get back home. The dealership wouldn't have it though. They insisted they collect the tax else I could not leave with the truck. The finance ladies (not the salesmen) insured me that it wasn't a double dip situation. They even calculated what they expected me to owe in tax in my home town, not at the location of purchase. What they did was collect it and mail it to the DMV of my home town. Once the DMV received it I went to register my truck and all went as expected. The tax was already paid in full.

On another note are they offering AC TRD OR's for '18 models in the US? For 16 and 17 that was a Canada only spec.

Twice now I’ve gone to my dealer and given them exact specs down to individual packages and colors, along with a check for $1000. In each case I’ve gotten exactly what I wanted within a few of months.

Right? A Ford dealer near me had 248 F150s last time I checked, it would cost a small fortune to photograph all of them.

Funny, I just drove past that truck in the Mark Miller receiving lot.

The biggest issue there is you are deal with Mark Miller Toyota. See if Larry H Miller down the street can source the same truck, they do a lot better on the customer service side. I know a lot of people that are happy with them. Brent Brown in Orem is ok to buy from as well, but DO NOT take it to get any sort of service there.

    I feel the same way.

I've place a order around Christmas for a Off-Road 4x4, Long bed, Premium Pack (leather seats and moon roof) in Mag gray in Los Angeles, CA.

I been stopping by the dealer almost every week to check the status and the GSM keeps pushing for couple weeks, ITS BEEN 4 MONTHS!

He showed me the codes in January that the truck wasn't available anywhere in California, basically it didn't exist yet.
January goes by and nothing either.
In February his system shows that 2 truck are been build.
In March trucks are on FREIGHT, going to a far away dealer in Northern Cali and he was going to try to get it (trade).
Last Friday he found 1 truck 360 miles away and he was going to try to "flatbed" the truck over here.

I wondering if he's playing me and what he would get doing such thing. I've contacted over 10 dealers and they all come back with a short bed or they say they can order if I pay a $1000 deposit and agree to pay full MSRP on the truck.

Last night I checked on CarGurus and found 3 trucks, all in Northern Cali.
Today Im going back to my local dealer to see what they can do about it.

    Fingers crossed. Any inputs?

    OP,

    Two things:

1.) You seem like a nice enough guy, but - what's with the mystery? Are you scared someone is going to see your configuration, completely fall in love with it, drop what they're doing, and rush out en route to an (as per you) exhaustive search to try to beat you to the punch? I have news for you - no one who is seriously looking for something chooses to misuse a resource touting thousands of eyes at its disposal.

2.) To answer your original question - yes. You are being played. That is the job of the salesperson - to sell you something. And regarding today's salespersons, we can amend that to say: "To sell you something at as high of a price as possible." Often times that involves lying, manipulating, maneuvering, and taking advantage of. If you have to ask the question: "Am I being played by the dealer?" I have more news for you - you are already flush behind the 8-ball with no look when it comes to this car buying experience.

    Good luck.

Brent Brown was the only dealership in Utah willing to give me less than MSRP on a 17 TRD OR when I bougth it in September of 16. I even got call backs from other dealers after I bought the truck who told me I did the right thing in buying from Brent Brown because of the markdown I got.

I bought my truck from Brent Brown as well and was very happy with the price I paid. But myself and others have been given the run-around or poor service from the service area. Trying to get a clear as day wheel bearing failure fixed was like pulling teeth. Called LHM's service department and they took it in the next day without any fuss at all.

+1 to the above- Brent Brown gave by a long shot the best price and trade-in deal all-in. It was also relatively painless which in my mind is worth something on the deal as well (not worth 5 extra visits over 4 weeks to save $200...)

Good to know about the service dept- will look elsewhere!

I live across the street from the dealership. I actually ended up finding my current truck by accident.

We're heading to New Jersey tomorrow to pick up 13 new Toyotas. And, the same again Thursday.

What color do you want? I'll ask them to hold it for you.

I had many dealers from West Virgina to Utah saying they had them. Sent me the Vspecs, and VINS checked out, so I'm gonna say yes.

Dude. I said “This.” As in “what this guy just said” or “this guy gets it”.

WOW, it's actually on the lot? They said it wasn't supposed to be there until early May.

Thanks for the heads up Brent Brown. I'm pretty fed up with the system, but as you and others have posted good things, I will give them a call should I decide I'm willing to "play the game" again.

Might have just been a similar one. They sell boatloads of tacomas here.

I live by Brent Brown and work near LHM. If you want me to go scout a truck for you, I'd be willing to do that.

    @Gunshot-6A , @mdiprimio , @i8boots ,

Thanks for the heads up on Brent Brown!

They arranged to get the truck from Mark Miller @ the same price, and have been easy to work with... sending all the paperwork for my local financer, and allowing me time to dot the "I"s and cross the "T"s with them.

I arranged for a deposit to be wired yesterday, at lunch, however they didn't get the info sent to my credit union until after the cut-off time for wire transfers, so it won't actually be sent until Monday.

It is scheduled to be delivered from the factory/distributer (whether it's going straight to them or Mark Miller first, I do not know) between 04-28 (today!) and 05-02. I'm planning to fly out either Friday or Saturday morning to pick her up.

It's about a 1200 mile return trip, so the good news is I will have my break in period over when I get back. I am concerned (just a little bit) about the break in instructions for that initial long trip home. Am not sure what Toyota considers "extremely high speeds". I definitely want to do turnpike speed limits (and assume that is fine). More concerning would be the "Do not drive at constant speed for extended periods". I guess that means I have 17 hours of driving to do, without cruise control... and constantly changing speeds on the turnpikes/freeways. I doubt it will hurt the truck really, if I do cruise control it, but also believe in break in periods and request for varying load conditions. I guess I could try to arrange for a private shipper to get it back here instead...

On another note... for those of you who have purchased from Brent Brown, do they badge the trucks with the dealership name? Most dealers in these parts do.

Congrats. I have read the worst thing you can do for a new engine is keep the rpms consistent. But I imagine you'll get varying opinions on that. You've got a little time to read up and decide what you want to do. Good luck!
