What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

It is suppose to be light. It’s about 10 years old. Needs some cleaning of the shingles. Mine has some on front too but mine are dark so you don’t notice like on his.

 

How 'about that - a locked, re-geared TRD Sport on 63" leaf springs.

Serious question:
Why put 63's on the rear when the front will never be able to allow you to use the 63's to their full advantage? I understand the attraction to go to them but isn't it pretty pointless w/an IFS?

 

That was 10 years ago. Everything is made in Mexico these days.
So yeah, that battery was probably hecho en Mexico. Still worked better than the other batteries.

 

Not at all. The 63 swap can easily hang with IFS. In fact, I need to upgrade to LT to really take advantage that direction. Or I SAS and match the other direction. The 63 swap is versatile enough with either direction you want to go.

@MolonLabeTaco - Once I find an available forklift I'll lift up the back end to show you just how much downward travel these things have. It'll sail over whoops no problem.

 

You misunderstood me. The 63's absolutely blow away an IFS & the IFS can't get anywhere near hanging w/63's. So why go 63 when IFS is so lacking?

 

10 years ago Optima was USA made & quality. Now, not so much.

Yeah, that kinda shit bugs me too. At least they went to Mexico not China. The Chinese have zero quality control and quite frankly don't give two turds if something is out of spec. At least the battery warranty is the same and the technology is proven.
My best friend used to work for Johnson Controls here in Tampa. Those battery plants are some serious shitty work environments. I don't blame people for not wanting to work in them.

 

I'm running Falken Wildpeak AT/3 tires on TRD SEMA wheels.

 

Because droop is droop and the more you have in the rear the better regardless of IFS, LT, or SAS.

 

I hear ya'. Johnson Controls is still the maker of the majority of batteries in the US. They just put different labels on them.

My point is, if the IFS isn't gonna get thru it, which it lacks strongly @, then the rear is pointless if it can droop 10" or 10'.
Match the front to the rear if spending money. 63's are cool & flex like mad but.........
I'm not knocking it @ all, just curious. I thought about it when I got my Taco but decided it was not the wisest choice of money. I come from solid axle front suspensions & have wheeled 63's but for this IFS it's a moot point.

I was gonna say something similar. I was able to put that to real world test this weekend too. Swapped rear shocks for an additional 3.5" of droop, and it made certain obstacles a whole lot easier. Doesn't sound like a lot on paper but it really made a difference. I was still lifting tires, so more droop would have been awesome.
