91 and done. Run it for 500 miles and if your curious after that you can always go to 87 later but having run both, while 87 is a huge step up from stock, 91 is like driving a whole different animal. these engines like premium anyway, so tuning for it just makes a lot of sense. if you can handle the cost, 91 and don't look back.

Go with 87 first, then go with 91...you'll still appreciate both tunes more. Of course you'll love the 91 tune, but some people don't seem to appreciate the 87 tune when they started with the 91 tune first.

Now, if you don't mind the extra cost for 91 and plan on using it for the forseeable future, then definitely go with the 91 tune first. But many usually go back to 87 after they've had their "fun" with 91 for a few months.

...and definitely go with 87 first if you still have a bunch of it in the tank.

I wouldn't... you don't want to run lower than 91 on the 91 tune as it will cause it to pull timing to the point it would probably drive worse than stock. won't hurt anything but you may not be wowed. if you have 1/4 87 go ahead and flash 87 and enjoy it... if you love it drive it as long as you like then from an empty tank fill up with 91 then flash. you can run 91 on the 87 tune no problem but no no 87 on 91 tune ;)

    happy tuning

That's a good point about running 91 with the 87 tune. I ran the 87 tune for a month and when getting ready to transition to 91, I filled it up with 91 (on the 87 tune) until I flashed to 91 on the 2nd tank of 91. I wanted to be sure all of the 87 was out of the system before going to 91. Maybe it wasn't necissary, but it didn't hurt to be a little overly cautious. It also helped that I like the 87 tune too...I was just curious about trying the 91 finally. :D

Yeah, it couldn’t hurt. I can only get 93 I premium so I’ve never been too worried about having a little 87 in there bc no doubt the total octane is above 91

@dYL0n did you ever clean your MAF and or replace ur crankshaft position sensor? If so did u see an increase in mpg? Just wondering.

Finally! The truck will drop to 2nd on its own coming out of a turn and not bog along in 3rd. Just flashed 1.04 lastnight and I know it gets better the more you drive it. Hopefully 6th gear will learn to stay way until I’m at least doing 60mph or higher. Lol. Great job @OVTune

I started on the 91 tune. Was it fun? Yes. Was it worth the extra price at the pump? Not for me.

The MPGs got even better. I always get 2 mpgs worse on my commute home... slow ascent up the Nashville basin. It's only 400 ft elevation change but enough that when stop/go it has an impact. I got 21 mpgs driving in stop/go/rolling on my way home. = has never happened. even without traffic...

Also, transmission learning is DEFINITELY happening. No question. But so far its GOOD learning. After flashing I found the shift points, especially 3rd-4th and 5th-6th a little high (meaning it was holding 3rd more than I'd like and same with 5th on the highway). This has worked itself out based on my last few drives... it's even going all the way to 5th in some areas where it wouldn't leave 3rd but it's doing so SO smoothly and slight pedal = no lug, it just downshifts smoothly - so much so that with the music up, not paying attention to the cluster I don't even notice the shifts.

@OVTune I know you had to "allow" learning to some extent b/c the maps have to be progressively different in some way so it can still cycle through the tables. though I know you muted it overall, is there some merit to what I'm experiencing. starting out aggressive, then going through the maps to land on the "right" map?

As of now the asks I had for changes to 3rd and 5th are no longer needed. So long as this sticks, the shifting is perfect for me.

Try 87, May just be enough for a few hundred miles and then do 91 so you can truly compare

I still need to do a write up about all the changes in 1.04 and the effects. I'll try to get that out this week.
But basically I've further muted the transmissions torque map shuffling while giving the shift maps more "independence." which I'll go into detail on when I can.

Our R&D truck is getting prepared to go to our friends over at TurboSource for some "things" ;) https://turbosource.com/

also been playing with some things in the ECU (MT stuff mainly).

Curious if anyone would be interested in having a back up / pretuned ECU? I have a source to get a bunch of ECUs and can pretune them and reprogram VINs no problem

    1.04. Kbro2s. ICONS.
MAF was cleaned last oil change and crank position sensor changed while the truck was off for flashing the ECU.

My MPGs are better but I’ve been doing a lot of different driving than normal.

I’m right at 19mpg avg which is actually about 19.7mpg (tire size)

I wish I was getting close to some of the mpg’s you guys have shown! I average 14.5. I have sliders, hidden front winch, a softopper, and Cooper ST 255/85/16’s. I live in western NY and drive primarily 50% highway, 50% city. So far I have about 1000 miles on the 1.04 87 octane version.

Try to keep it 60MPH or less. I have 285/70/17's lots of extra weight! Gears upgraded to 4.88 and i cant get over 18 MPG @ 60 or less! Its sucks driving that slow so i dont 70-80 gets me about 15MPG and thats just fine with me. Running 1.04 91octane since last Sunday getting close to about 200 miles , i am hoping it gets a little better after another tank through it! If it doesn't its just fine with me!
