Is the Tacoma TRD Pro worth the extra $10k over a TRD Off-Road, ZR2 or Ranger?

I’ll agree the Southern California market is different, being I’ve bought and sold Tacoma’s here.

But it is not worth it for the Tacoma TRD Pro vs the TRD OR. You won’t see the price premium in resale long term. In my case it was $32.2k TRD OR vs $42k TRD Pro. No way would you see that long term. Maybe $2-3k difference.

    People keep
Talking SR5 vs TRD OR. I wouldn’t even consider since there’s no Manual Transmission option. The closer you keep the vehicle to stock, the better you’ll be in the long run from loosing out.

Either way it’s a truck, and you should use it how it was meant to be used. Rack those miles up, don’t be scared.

I've never even seen a used TRD Pro anywhere on a lot or CarMax around here. I've seen several new ones on lots for sale except for black, never seen that one in person yet. Do used Pro's even exist?

There's a black one listed in my area for 44k and a red one listed for just over 42k.

New ones are listed at 47k and are mostly the Cavalry Blue.

I've seen 2 used white 3rd gen pros at my local dealer in the past year. They are out there...but with that being said there isn't that many Tacoma's for sale in general.

What I have not seen for sale is 15 Pro's....the real Tacoma unicorns.

Not that you should or would buy a rig strictly for resale, my position is a TRD Pro...kept stock and in great condition, will out-resale any rig discussed so far. Given enough time, this resale would be well beyond the price differential which exists today. Not to date myself too much, this conversation is almost perfect deja vu to ones I would have in 2000 when I bought my 2001 Integra Type R. I had an army of Integra folks tell me I was a fool, that I could mod a GSR well beyond the performance of my ITR at less cost (and even get some things not available on the ITR). However, I did mod it slightly (kept all the original items), drove the hell out of it, and sold it for almost what I paid for it new. I probably do not need to tell you what otherwise comparable Integras were going for at that time. Similar experience with Landcruisers...paying the premium for electronic lockers. "Just get ARB air-lockers" they said...but if you bought one with factory lockers, you were paid back many times over.

To get the feature set of a Ranger even close to a Tacoma, you need to spen 10k more in upgrades on the Ranger.

An Itr is a terrible comparison on so many levels..different motor than any other teg, seats, lightened and reinforced sub frame, different suspension(meaning not just the spring and shocks...etc it was a different animal....a Pro not so much. What leather seat covers?, badges, wheels...shocks and springs and lights?

It's not an ITR...Its not an SRT8 Grand Cherokee, it's not a Trailblazer SS, Its not a Raptor, it's not a Hellcat.

It doesnt have that Unique motor or have it's own specific wild body part or moulding that makes it stand out...Sorry a grill and badges:notsure:

    It's just not a collector's item.

I have to agree with you here. It is more like comparing a Cali Special Mustang to a Mustang GT. Nothing too much different, not like a Boss, GT500, or GT350.

Oh I wish the army of ITR posers could read this thread now. ITR was NOT a collector's item either...it became one later. That said, I am not gonna get into a pissing contest with you...as we are both only speculating.

If the point is to buy for resale, buy one that is fully depreciated already. You can sell those for what you buy 'em for. If you buy a new truck you are going to lose $3-5k by signing the title and give someone else a deal in 5 years. Pick the one you like best and keep it forever if you want the best return on your money. Never having to spend $40k again on a truck is about as well as anyone can hope for really. ;)

It's not a speculation lol. The car had enough done to it factory to make it feel like a completely different car. Does the pro? No.

$40K+ for any Tacoma (regardless of the package)? I love my 16' Tacoma (SR5 with some modest mods) but no way in hell I'd have that much tied up in a small truck. But, that said (written) I have over $25K in a Harley FXDL that I would be lucky to get $7K for today...but I've had it for 12 years so I've lost about $1500 a year in value. Would love to get a 19' Tacoma and only lose that much on my 16' (but that "ain't" going to happen).

Correct, I meant speculation on future valuation of TRD Pros. I have owned 2 ITRs, so I am very familiar with all the differences that thousands of Integra owners attempted to clone (from 5-lug conversions to B18C5 swaps to the big-ass wing). This is why this topic has given me so much deja vu...it is the same convo, just different pieces (and yes, not as many differences). That said, Toyota could increase Tacoma TRD Pro production so much that I could be completely wrong! (this did not happen with the ITR).

Does this really matter if you rack 30-40,000 miles per year on a TRD PRO? I look at it from that perspective

Starting out at 47k for any taco is pretty damn hard to swallow, especially if it's the same engine, brakes and body panels as the lower trim costing thousands less.

Pickup trucks used to be coveted by trades people and farmers, lol.

You could always sell your beat up truck to a guy who would beat it up even more.

Now trucks are so damm cool!

    Everyone wants to drive one.

Looking forward to the time when they become "un-cool" again....

Get the Sport. Looks damn good, has the scoop like the pro and is less expensive. You aren't going to need the locker of the OR.

We all know the only reason the pro will have a higher resale is because the owners won’t take it off road and beat it up
