Whoever is creeped out didn’t read the post above. All references were made regarding 18+ Chilean Girls, not 15 y/o...

I agree with what they want, not how they are going about it. They are breaking the trust with their students and their families. They are finically hurting a group they claim to be fighting for, the support staff (no school, no pay for them). I hope the Gov uses exec power and declares the school year over, early summer (he won't). Would really take the wind out of the teachers' sails.

I was support staff for a school district for over 5 years. I understand a little bit about it.

People seem to forget, all the pay scales are setup by the local school districts, not the governor or legislators.

As far as this being politically motivated and not just about the issues... the two guys leading it: 1) only has a provisional teacher cert. 2) The other one was certified in AZ in January. The leaders aren't AZ teachers, they don't truly know what these people are dealing with.

The Sec of ED said it best yesterday, the best way for the teachers to get the change they want, Voter Initiative on the ballot in November. They only have until July to get the signatures turned in. I would sign.

 

Yes and no, i was watching the news this morning a noticed a lady downtown who had a sign that said "I moved to AZ for a 50¢ pay cut" that isn't anybody's fault but hers.

Also think that some teachers should be making more but not every teacher. Years, Experience, and past class grade averages should determine that. When I was in school I had teachers who were just bad teachers.

The school itself should be getting more money for stuff that classes need, etc. I know some teachers pay out of pocket for classroom items, and that I think is unfair. No teacher should have to pay for school needed items, they should be provided from the school itself. How can you do a job with all your effort if you're only supplied 50% of what is needed to do the job.

 

18+ only... this isn't Afghanistan.

 

Reading is optional for a population that has a current attention span lower than that of a goldfish. I would link the article about that study but nobody would read it.

Red For Ed, my Wife is a teacher, I have already parted ways with people over the total ignorance of statements being imparted on social media and elsewhere. Once again, fucking goldfish can't read all the facts before commenting.

"They got 20% in 2020, what else do they want?"

A.) For that money to come from politically motivated tax cuts instead of DDD and state VA programs.
B.) For it to be sustainable.
C.) Class sizes to be reasonable. Not a single motherfucker in here would be able to handle 35 kids all day long and not flip your shit. My Wife is a patient (and exhausted) saint.
D.) For support staff like SpED, librarians, and music to get raises too.

Yeah, the sick out is pissing people off, good, maybe you'll stop being goldfish if this inconveniences you personally by making you responsible for your own kids instead of dropping them off at state daycare.

They work more than 9.5 months in most districts. My Wife works 10 fulls months and also puts in hours outside her contract, A LOT of hours. Not because she isn't efficient, because there isn't enough time in the day without neglecting her household and own children, so it rolls into the weekend.

Also, that retirement plan is a 12 (now 13%) mandatory deduction thay she loses before 10 years of service and also if she ever gets convicted of ANY crime. How is that a benefit? One trumped up charge and she loses years of pay to the state.

 

Like my kids better not have to go to school in the middle of summer break to make up days

The sentiment of many parents that my Wife deals with. Same people that send her shitty e-mails on a Saturday night and expect immediate response as to why their kid is failing, but little Timmy didn't turn in his last four assignments and e-mails were sent and not replied to by the same parent who is now sending the shitty mail.

Sorry Tara, being married to a teacher and seeing the entitlement by parents in general regarding what they think a teacher should be responsible for vs. what they actually are has made me a tad apathetic to the plight of other parents.

 

I'd rather go back to 18+ Chilean Exchange students, less divisive.

 

My son was just informed by his student council teacher that they are not required to attend school on Thursday or Friday because of the walk out. I told him to go to school and when they stick him in some B's class room to stand up and walk out . If they question him about it say" I came here to learn and that's not happening so see you tomorrow"
