Hi everyone just wondering what the difference between the 3rd and 2nd gen 6112/5160 is... I just purchased the kit but 2nd gen so just wondering if anyone is running 2nd gen on their 2016 Tacoma

Shawn at Rogue Off Road has. He told me that the truck had a softer ride with the 2nd gen 6112s. He preferred it over the 3rd gen. I have 6112s and 5160s sitting in my living room for my 3rd gen. Awaiting tires. Money doe.

Yeah I remember you said that on a different thread and also talked to rogue off road and so I pulled the triggered on a 2nd gen bilstein 6112 and also it’s all installed now!

How does it ride? What notch did you put it on? I'm thinking 5 to get that almost 2.5in lift. I still haven't installed mine lol. Waiting on my tires.

My buddy has second gen 6112 on his 3rd gen. It rides softer than 6112 on my second gen, I like it better. Hes on 4th notch and I'm on 5 to compare. We dont have measurements

I'm thinking the 5th notch just cause I know it will settle below 2.5in.

I read a couple post that it was not recommended to run second gen shocks on a 3rd gen, but we got really good deals on them during black Friday. We played it safe and kept it at the 4th notch. Report back when you get it installed, we might bump it up if theres no problem.

5th notch as in the spring is more compressed?
Or 5 as in less compressed?

Probably more to give you the height. 4 is like 2.14 or something and 5 is 2.48 roughly. I figures after it settles it may be less. I am not a expert, could someone else chime in?

The more you compress the springs the rougher the ride.
So its no question on why the dudes 3rd gen rode better than the 2nd gen. For the compression ring rate.

I have 5100'x4. No comparison really but my truck rides exactly how I wanted it to.
Less body roll in turns and softer on wash board type of environment. Just 100% better from 4600's-stock.

People buy stuff and do no research, lift there trucks and compress stuff to the limit and wounder why the ride sucks.

I will have to see if anyone has 2nd gen 6112s on a 3rd gen with it being on the 5th notch. Maybe I will just do the 4th. I have a 1/4 spacer for the Taco lean for the driver side.

The 6112s are designed to be run in any notch without being "too" pre loaded. Mine are set 5/6 (3rd gen version) and there is nothing harsh about the ride.

I question this. With bypass how?
The spring is there for weight.
If compressed an no weight to even out the rebound.... assuming stock front end.
I bet your ride be 100% better just leveled. 2nd notch. 5160's in back.
    No lift.

The set up I was initially going to run but I had no weight for the front.
