While I'm aware of the practice of businesses deleting unfavorable customer reviews from their websites, I've recently experienced the practice first-hand. I was asked to provide a review after a recent purchase, only to have the TW vendor delete my review. The vendor will remain anonymous for now (I'm still waiting for a reply).

Note: When answering the question, please assume the review didn't contain any explicit, hateful or racist language.

Are we referring to deleting product reviews or reviews about the business in particular?

The practice of deleting reviews occurs for both products and services, and a single review can relate to both. Perhaps some are okay with deleting one type of review but not another. Feel free to address the question as you see fit. These polls aren't the most scientific, but I'm interested in receiving some feedback from our TW community.

I dont agree with negative reviews whether it is related to the business or product. If it is negative about the business it offers customers a chance to see what issues they could potentially have and it gives feedback to the owners about their business and ways they can improve they business.

If it's about a product, negative reviews tend to be the most honest and provide insight into the product and conveys issues that may affect the next buyer. The negative reviews are more helpful to me than "it's awesome--5stars" or whatever.

I agree with you in that I don't agree with businesses deleting reviews

    Yeah.
In the case of poor service or a defective product (defective, not poorly engineered), I believe in giving a vendor a chance to make things right before giving a negative review. If they are less than very responsive, they might still get a bad review.

If the vendor addresses your issues and requests your permission to delete, and you agree, I think that is acceptable.

In the case of a poorly engineered product, I would not grant permission to delete. Unless they re-engineer it, send me a free one, and then request my permission, lol.

I dont think its right either. I want to see the bad and the good reviews. I want to see what other people have experienced with the vendor be it good or bad....

And will it ever be in the future?

Shit meant to vote NO. I want to read all reviews good and bad. Goods can be a friend or family and the "bads" can be a silly ass consumer that didn't get their way so they throw a tanturm online - hence TW... On the other end, they can be a suck-ass sleazeball vendor and I want to know that as well before parting with my hard earned cash.

Do you really trust that the reviews on any company's website aren't handpicked to make them look as good as possible? Isn't that why this forum is so valuable?

I have heard of companies doing their own "glowing" reviews but do not know of any such situations personally.

I do not think a company should delete a review when they can address the issue and improve upon it. If the company shows effort on their end it is better in my book. Customers should work with the company as much as they can before leaving a bad review as well.

Just read a news "story" that a lot of companies are buying reviews for 5 stars on Amazon. I only read reviews from the bottom up. Starting at 1 star and up to at least 3. People tend to tell more of the truth when upset then happy I believe. Some of the lower rated ones also tell how dumb the customer is by not understanding the product.

I manage a parts department at a large dealership. I personally love negative feedback. Shows me where we need to improve. I don't delete them I follow up on every single one. If a negative feed back is treated properly it's a win win for booth the customer and the seller.

I don't agree with deleting reviews. If your product is good, let it be known. If not, then that's incentive to improve it.

I think a negative review should be left up but updated if the vendor addresses and resolves the issue.

Is the OP saying a review on Company A's own website was removed, or that a review here on TW was removed by Company A?

If it's Company A's own website... that's their website and they can do whatever they want with it. If you're looking for unbiased reviews of a company on their own website you're doing research wrong.

But if it's TW, that seems problematic as most of us expect that TW wouldn't be editing or censoring reviews, even if they are TW vendors.

People complain about shit all the time that isn’t relevant to the products they have bought or the services they have received.
Those types of reviews skew metrics for CSI and all kind of other measurables.
Businesses have two choices, either bribe customers with something free to get them to change it to a positive review, or delete it completely to omit it from their scores.
There’s no way to provide objective feedback on weather what they did was right or wrong without adding some context and detail to the story

I voted no but only because its the closest to what I feel. If its an honest review of a product or service it should not get deleted. If its just someone thats but hurt due to a lack of knowing what was being purchased then I have no problem if its deleted. I kinda wish 1 word reviews would be removed, I dont need "Awesome" or "crap" reviews. I want to know what makes it awesome or sucks. What makes something good or bad for 1 person wont always make it good for another.
