I didn't really know where to post this question, but I was wondering what this part is that is rusting so noticbly? I can't really identify what it is, and was wondering if the rust that can be seen is something to be concerned about. The truck is just over two years old. Any input is appreciated, thank you!

Front Diff subframe bracket? That's pretty oxidized for two years... salted roads up there probably don't help. Perhaps talk to Toyota about that?

These look great on the truck but do they actually sit down on the hood of the truck and touch the paint? Does that bump actually deflect wind/bugs up over the windshield? We have a lot of bugs up near me. A LOT!

The bump seems to deflect bugs pretty well. They’re attached with 3M tape...only the tape touches paint.

Interesting. So is there a gap between the deflector and the hood. Is it completely sealed by the tape or does water get down in between there? I have used deflectors in the past on other vehicles but never any that were affixed to the hood. My concern is moisture, then in the winter ice, or dirt, etc and how that might be bad for the paint. Back in the day, those fake leather bra's were all the rage until the people that installed them took them off to find the area under them permanently damaged. They were then forced to buy new and run them all the time. I guess I feel like this is one of those once you do this you will always have this mods. Not a bad thing if there is no damage as a result but I have to wonder.

I do hate having to clean my windshield daily with a scrubby pad though. Did I mention we have a lot of bugs?

I'd love to see a defector in a wind tunnel flowing bug's or debris up and over the windshield, compared with not having one in the same test. I'll take my chances not having my truck look like Burt Reynolds.

The old leather bras actually touched the hood, so anything that got trapped underneath would rub the paint. With this deflector, nothing can get underneath (that I can see) as there’s tape around the entire perimeter. If something were to get underneath, it would merely sit on the surface without any friction to create damage.

Cool, great info! Thanks. I mean, I honestly don't know why they don't make a decent deflector that "DEFLECTS" things. I have seen them on other vehicles and have even considered buying one and using a heat gun to soften the plastic and then rolling it with a piece of pvc pipe but they cost too much to test that out. Back in the day, I had one on a 1980 Bronco like you typically see on a tractor trailer. It was completely vertical and about 4" tall. As long as you were going over 15 mph you would never get a snowflake, bug, or rain drop (unless it was pouring) on your windshield. Looked like crap but sometimes function beats form.

On a good stretch of road up near me, there is a bottom alongside, on the right, and a horse farm pasture on the left. It is wet most of the time. After a couple days of rain, at night, traveling down that road, it sounds like sleet hitting the windshield.

The only thing I can compare it to is one time down in Myrtle Beach we took a trip on our bikes down to Charleston. We left during the day and came back at night. Worst night driving experience on a motorcycle I ever had. LOL
