Forums were way better before vendors and companies became a part of them. Reviews were a lot less biased. Now we have people giving reviews who get kick backs from companies. Some of their build threads read like an advertisement, makes me want to throw up in my mouth.

Unfortunately, TW occasionally deletes bad vendor reviews also. All it takes is one sympathetic moderator towards a TW vendor.

Critical reviews are the only reviews that provide any insight in my view. When a product lives up to my expectation I don't see the need to mention that to the next potential customer.

You nailed it with "testimonials" THAT is what any consumer with internet experience would expect to find on a vendor website. If I go to Toyota I might expect to see quotes or testimonials (AKA positive reviews) from toyota owners. If I go to apple and see "this is the best phone ever!" - consumer John Doe, I know not to take that as some sort of unbiased review because DUH I'm on apple.com

If you go to a vendor website expecting unbiased reviews thats YOU being ignorant not the vendor being shady. I'd love to see an example of ANY company truly doing this... You won't find one, maybe you'll find some feigning impartiality with a few 3-4 star reviews but guaranteed no successful company is going to leave 1-star negative torching their product reviews up ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE. Who the hell would do that and why!? To try to impress internet rookies who will appreciate their corporate "honesty".... yeah right.

It wasn't any different before the internet either.... show me a brick and mortar store that voluntarily shares negative reviews of its products to potential customers. This is the entire foundation of third party reviews (BBB, yelp, google, etc), its literally a multi billion dollar industry specifically created BECAUSE companies won't and never have done what OP is asking and apparently 95% of TW expects o_O

Yea, I wasn't going to really get into all that. I'm not exactly aware of any specific cases of mods deleting vendor reviews, but they are quick to jump in on certain threads for some vendors and not others. But I try not to concern myself with stuff like that.

I know exactly how the internet works, so take that shit elsewhere, Zombie Steve Jobs.

As for the vendors and "their own websites" - don't waste my time asking for my opinion if your plan is to cherry-pick only the glowing reviews and censor those where you've screwed up.
Is that too difficult for you tech-savvy youngsters to understand?

Agree.... BUT this very site has deleted threads/posts with negative feedback of TW approved vendors so how much value does this or any forum really have?

Exactly. If I see any company site that has ONLY positive, glowing reviews, I will just assume they're being deceitful and shop elsewhere.
All companies make mistakes. ALL. COMPANIES. Show me you're capable of addressing and fixing legitimate complaints, otherwise I go elsewhere. Show me you trust your customer base to possess the intelligence and common sense to recognize and distinguish BS "disgruntled customer" nonsense from your legitimate mistakes. Show me you're not only worth my hard-earned money, but also worth putting my name out there backing your product. Otherwise, stop bothering me.

You waste your own time thinking you're so self important with internal surveys, like when you get a new owners survey from Toyota you probably think some bean counter back at corporate is meticulously logging every word and passing cliff notes to the CEO himself

Want the truth old man?? NO ONE GIVES A SHIT

Thats why smart consumers use THIRD PARTY reviews when evaluating a product, thats the whole reason they exist. If your little fantasy world where companies posted unbiased unfiltered reviews on their own websites was based in reality Yelp wouldn't be worth $BILLIONS$ and Consumer Reports wouldn't exist...

I agree with this for the most part but here's the rub for me. Of course vendors can put whatever they want on their website but if they put a public submission form for reviews they shouldn't filter them. I frown upon that.

I like reading both types of reviews. It helps to see the good and bad in a vendor, and it’s usually not too hard to see which customers are just discontent jerks. Like eBay, who doesn’t check out a sellers feedback? I’m not buying anything from a seller with 70% satisfaction and lots of complaints!! So, being able to see positive and negative reviews along with dialogue between the parties helps determine if someone is worth taking a risk and buying from.

I used to work for a dealer that paid the employees for every review that was left on said third party sites ... needless to say every person on their facebook, social media and family had stunning reviews for this person and had never set foot in the dealership.

Touch a nerve, Jaque8? Maybe your generation should lay off the 'net for a few minutes each day and practice basic human interaction.
Now, back to whatever digital dumbassery you're mastering today...

Wow, this internet-tubes-thing CAN be fun (thanks for that meme, Ted Stevens)!
Did I use the word "meme" in its proper context Young Cyber Genius?

With a couple more pages we can start reviewing this very thread! So far I am giving it 1 star.
