I'd say Highlander, it's cheaper, gives a more car like ride. I think of the highlander as a bigger Rav4. I think of the 4runner as a Taco with a cap on back.

Which one does she like better? It’s her DD so let her decide.
4R is body on frame and rides as such but it’s a 4R and it’s ths shitnit. The Highlander rides smoother, has more room and more car like with better gas mileage but it’s not a 4R. Chicks generally like one or the other and it’s not hard for them to decide between em.

I bought my wife a 2018 TRD Offroad Premium 4Runner. She loves it, I love it.

Highlanders never got me excited about life. :bored:

My buddies wife is wanting to trade in her highlander for a 4R. I quote her as saying “Highlander = no fun”

If she values a smooth ride and a vehicle that handles much like a car.....I'd say the HL for sure. There's no denying it's Camry/Sienna roots.

Is the 4Runner something she's brought up or does she want an SUV and you brought up the 4R?

Take her to test drive both, see what she likes best. I love my body on frame 4runner, love the trucky ride and feel and off-road capability. I call it the beast because it feels so big, but it handles nimbly. But if she doesn’t like a trucky ride, the car like highlander may be more her style. The best thing to do is to have her drive the different vehicles, not you. A friend of mine traded a car for a 4runner limited, but refused to test drive it, and made the spouse drive it. After the purchase, she drove it and hated it, then dumped it 6months later for a luxury German car......so have her drive!

Well she drove both. Loved the looks of the four runnner but didn’t like the ride. Looks like she is leaning toward the highlander. Thanks for the input.

Maybe also check out the new 2019 rav4. Looks sort of like a 4runner and also has an offroad version.

Body on frame vehicle is easier to work on than a unibody.

Mine did’t like the looks of the HL so went with the 4R. IMO the HL is more comfy for family and seats one more person with 3rd row

    Workin' on it....
I’d be happy to trade a wife for a 4Runner......

    J/k
    I’ve got a good wife.

For a DD, go with the Highlander or new RAV4 for better gas mileage.

Dunno if she's worth trading in for a 4Runner or Highlander. That's up to you.

My wife has a Rav4. I told her when it's time to trade we should check out the Highlander. But lately I've been looking at the 4Runner. I know if we get one I will want to drive it.

I was/am in the same boat. Only took my wife one minute sitting in a highlander to say, HELL NO. She loves to drive my truck and likes the driving height of the 4 Runner. This weekend may be closing a deal if my connection ever feels like making it happen.

Having my wife do another test drive today. Main thing I am looking at is fold flat third row seat. I've already got a rig for off-road, so she is going bare essentials SR5 w/Entune/Nav, no 4x4, no TRD. I'll find out today, but was curious, do you lose a lot of cargo room with the option third row seat? That's the only thing I am not sure about.

Thanks man, I'll be checking it out today, but in the end it isn't my class. Drove my buddies T4R TRD OFF road with KDSS the other day and it was pretty sweet, but my wife just needs to look good cruising the streets and be safe, which I am pretty sure the Runner will check both those boxes.

Yes, you will lose a lot of cargo room with 3rd row. There will be a small space behind those 3rd row seats for some groceries. Do you need three rows? There is plenty of room for 3 on just the back row, and have tons of rear cargo space. The 2nd row also folds flat and creates a really huge space.
