By the by... Another method for mounting your fuse box:

Magnets. I haven't looked yet, but if there isn't a nice, empty area of steel up under the dash (like maybe on the firewall), you can always screw down a piece of steel plate wherever it's convenient, but out of sight. Still means getting under the dash, but just the one time. Now, epoxy some relatively thin Neodymium magnets (you can find them for cheap on evilBay) to the bottom of your fuse box and stick it to the plate or wherever. If you need to make changes, replace a fuse, whatever, you can reach up and pull the fuse box down.

There's also rubbery magnetic sheet material. My multimeter at work has its back covered with the stuff. I'm always near some steel, so I can stick the meter where I can read it while poking around.

Naturally I jest, but I do like the tail light area exit better than the cubby and gas filler areas. I pressure wash everything but the inside of the tail light areas.

This is the only thing I really hate about the east coast and all that salt for the harsh winters. I do not miss it but I miss everything else about it. Sorry

13 years on my 2nd gen. When I sold it I had nowhere near the rust you've got already. We get 100 inches of snow annually. I wonder why they don't adopt the same road treatment on the east coast? Ours only works to 20 degrees, but I don't believe it's salt based. Keeps the roads bare and dry.

 

I thought about doing this. How do you like them? My dads truck has these

 

Pfft! Inferno heat and humidity in the summer (A/C is a must), desert dry and frigid in the winter, stark trees for half the year, mosquito hell. . . Nope!

I do miss the twisty, nearly traffic free roads and the two days in the fall when the leaves have turned and it isn't dumping down rain yet. Otherwise, gimme the west all day long.

And these will set you back nearly $7 bucks but these might actually hold longer. Mine are good, but I have to question a plastic screw through the carpet vs this seriously hooked in method.

That urea-based stuff does work well, if the DoT was proactive enough to apply it at the right times. Sucks on the motorcycle though, unless you have a sidecar. Then, wee!
