I'm debating on 5100's or this setup (only looking for 2" after settling). Would you not be better off using some top spacers and not setting the 6112's at such a high clip setting to keep the ride less harsh, but gaining some lift?

You risk bottoming out the shock with the top plate spacer. From what I have read, you can get away with the stock bump stop on the 6112's but if you start adding to the compressed length of the shock that may no longer be the case.

Unless you are somehow getting into coil bind, pre-loading a linear spring shouldn't really affect the ride. So long as your vehicle weight, spring rate, and suspension geometry are constant the spring length at static ride height should be very close to constant. You may run into other issues, such as insufficient down-travel/bumps/thuds from the shock.

Looks good. When you say "better than stock" do you mean it soaks up bumps better and things like that?

    This.

The pre load problem is with the 5100s I believe. You can set those to lift i think. And when people use those to stretch out the stock springs, things get a little wonky. At least i think that is what i read.

6112s are designed for the springs that come with them .

I am personally running 2nd gen 6112s in the front, on 5th notch and sitting level with rear (for about 6 months now)
Great ride on road, even better on dirt roads and washboard type road, feels smoother actually than on road when going over decent bumps and holes at speed. I have 5100s in the rear, with 1.5" Icon AAL and no overload in. Feels a bit stiff and light in the back with no weight, but when weighted drives like a dream. I am about to get a topper on so hopefully I can be in that dream state at all times, hah.
Currently running Wildpeak 265/75r16 about to CMC and go to 285/75r16 or 17 depending on wheels I decide on.
Overall I would recommend the setup to anyone considering it. Great for everyday driving, improved road handling over stock. Even better on dirt road blasts and rough fire roads.

    Old thread, I know.
I have 6112s for 2nd Gen on my 3rd Gen. Set on slots 3 & 4. I have a bit less than 1" lift, which is what I wanted. Ride is supple and forgiving and controllable under all circumstance. Probably the equivalent of 6112s made for 3rd Gen set at slots 2&3.

I paid a dealer by PAYPAL for 6112s, and he kept delaying shipment. Then 6 weeks later he told me that all he could get were the Gen 2 versions. He could ship them right away. Over another month later I finally got them. Lousy!

5160s in rear. Better than 5100s. Lots better than skinny stockers. Still leave something to be desired in terms of rebound and controllability.

Some day I will upgrade the rears. Wish the 6112s were available for the rears. Perhaps Fox 2.5s.

Same here. I got more like 2" as on the spec sheet, not 2.5. For people saying that whatever suspension rides rough, try removing your front sway bar. It does induce a little more body roll, but I don't notice any more nose dive and it takes bumps MUCH better. Was great on rougher/harder trails. Won't go back.
