I dont think I would want anything like that on the swingout with a tire too. Too much weight on them makes my truck ride rough and im sure is a stress on the hinge when not closed

Plus I had a double Jerry can holder so, the weight is probably going down.... also truck rides pretty good weighted down, but I’m running Dakar’s with airbags

And yes my welds look like snot covered in licorice

On my 5 months of camping... I think i had three or four.

The bench building one you missed out on was surely the best.

You know it's real barn wood when there are old initials and horse hair on it.

And an added bonus of catching dysentery every time you cut a piece.

Hoping to talk the owner into swapping out the tall and upper cabinets to grey since they don't look good imo.

The last year for a solid axle Hilux was 1997. When Toyota introduced the 6th gen Hilux it had a coil spring IFS that was more or less similar to the Tacoma and 4Runner and the solid axle was dropped it for good.

Mostly, but not always true. I found out the hard way camping a couple years ago that local/county fire restrictions apparently supercede fed fire restrictions even on USFS/BLM land. And if local restrictions limit fires to propane for cooking only and/or a certain distance away from structures or wild grasses, trees, etc. then they won't necessarily let you use a decorative propane fire pit or grill. Bottom line is make sure you check on local/county fire restrictions wherever you are before you make any plans for any outdoor fires in summer fire season.

Do you have more clarification on this? I was under the impression from reading that USFS restriction supercede county when on USFS land. Generally curious because I don't want to be "that guy"

I was camping up on Guenella Pass last year on the Park County side and Park County was in a fire ban, but the USFS was not. I actually get crazy anxiety about these things so I told the wife we would see what other people were doing and I read that USFS supercedes county. Then, for whatever reason, when we got to the site there happen to be a couple USFS trucks and Park County Sheriffs coming down the trail. I stopped the USFS person and asked, they said it was fine to burn even though the county was in a ban, and other people had fires that the county and them saw.

Would it be possible this is based on area? Park County is pretty dry at lower elevations, but Guenella at the time, was pretty wet from higher elevation rain.

Nope. I actually prefer it. Don't want the smoke, don't want the late night having to make sure it's burnt down and out, don't want the light affecting my vision when trying to stargaze, etc. I don't necessarily mind having one if it's given to be a late night and all, or like a planned thing, but most of time, nope.

Based on a few minutes searching it apparently varies. Jefferson Co specifically says that the county will enforce a ban even on federal lands. Other results were talking about restrictions superseding - meaning a ban by any one entity applied across the board. And I distinctly remember conversations on this or the previous board I frequented talking about how such and such a county had a ban but going up to whichever Forest where there wasn't one (in the same county). It may also depend on the kind of ban - open fire vs total, etc.

But then there may be no consistent rule anywhere - there are lots of cases where people have had the experience of county or fed enforcing or not giving a shit about the same rules (OHV stickers being a big one, as has definitely been discussed here).

6 month impression of the 2017 Tacoma. Have 3500 miles on it. All good, no complaints. It does feel a bit strange driving it sometimes.

The buying of it escalated. Started looking at used 03 to 09. Found a few I was more than fine with, but very high miles.

Wife said “I think you should look at something a little nicer”. I know that’s a loaded comment. I think she meant newer. Then I started looking at 2013’s to 2015’s. You know where that went, might as well just get a new one...

Now I look at the build threads like Silverghost, Gramps and all y’all. Totally blown away. Kinda wishing I had gotten a first or second gen and had more money to mess around with it. :ballchain:
