Hey @Roostfactor is that FJ rad any thicker than the Taco one?

I was looking at my truck again. I’m going to need to space at least the bottom of the FJ rad out to clear my custom crossmember.

I measured tonight. It’s roughly 3.5” between the fan blades and the rad now.

Not sure what’s needed to be safe. Obviously, less than 3.5”

I don’t know the exact dimensions but it doesn’t look that much thicker overall, if you look at the end tanks.

Does he go by a screen name that starts with "gear"?

    KY Jelly is bestest.

    Good to know!

Hmm. Once you have the FJ radiator installed, I'd be interested in the inlet and outlet temps.

    Living on the wild side.

Y'all need to stop focusing on the problems and focus on solutions.

@Roostfactor pack up your tools and come to Houston. Everyone wins.

Is there a cut away or cross section available?

    Not that I have seen.

Dont tempt me on the Houston gig. I may just come down there sometime and play gypsy just to meet all y'all down there. There are quite a few members (I like to call virtual friends) in the Houston area.
Seriously it would be nice to actually meet people outside of the computer/phone screen. Maybe I'm just old school.

I think stock is 5/8 or 3/4 thick on Tacomas.
You need to check fan clearance though at full song which means hot radiator + max a/c so clutch fan is fully engaged then give it a run at max rpm.
You need to have something that will indicate how much clearance you have, something that will wear away when the fan blades hit it but doesnt break the fan blades. (Thinking out loud here)
So your saying your radiator as it is now sits closer to the fan than it did when stock?

Post or send me a couple pics if you can so I can see what you are talking about. The lower drivers side of the CSF is about 1/4 wider than the stock radiator but there is still clearance to the drivers side frame rail.

Not at all in my opinion. You aren't the only person who has the same mentality. If you ever decide to move forward with that decision, you're more than welcome here.

    Thank you for that measurement.

Right now, my radiator is right where it came from Toyota. My crossmember doesn’t neck down like it did from the factory since it’s beem replaced with a full square tube.

I believe I will have to space the new radiator back towards the engine a little to avoid it contacting the rebuilt crossmember.

I ordered the FJ radiator, shroud, and reservoir already. Since the rad won’t be here until at least June, it seems, I’ll just dig into it the and do whatever needs to be done.
