I was planning on reusing my shackles (mostly due to budget issues) - they don't look too bad after all but i know the bolts could be an entirely different story. And now I can't remember what all I ordered from Dan, I think I got new bolts. I will have to check. I have no reliable 4x4 shops here so if there is some part and is missing or destroyed in the process I'm screwed.

yeah....your shackles should be fine. i can almost guarantee you tho...that depending on how the underside of your truck looks...and how old it is...the bolts are gonna be seized in there.

It seems that you could--before teardown--take the new metal bushing sleeves to the local auto/hardware store and match up the right size diameter snug-fitting grade 8 bolts (assuming you measure the length on the stock one, first) to have on hand. Or go to the (gulp) dealer for the bolts. But I don't think you'd need a 4WD place for this hardware. Like Tacomaman06 says, the shackles are likely fine.

Just did a quick inventory of my goodies from wheeler's - looks like i only got 2 bolts...DAN! WTF! Don't i need 4 bolts? Did you run out? Forget to pack the other two? What's up?

Side note: I was sweeping out the bed of my truck yesterday and noticed a huge gouge in the paint. Guessing the UPS man scratched my baby when he put the leaf springs in the bed. No more love for the UPS man from me.

no.........because the bolts are more than likely seized on the inside. the 2 rear bolts should be ok though...at least mine were. i think you'll be good to go.

No, the order specifies front eye bolts only, so you should have one pair. Shackle bolts only come with their shackles. I noticed the same thing before I ordered.

My local Toyota dealer had no bolts or shackles. Neither did any local auto parts or 4x4 shops. So I will be calling Dan Monday. Argghh.

I'll be bugging Dan tomorrow too...about bolts and shocks...

and this is what the UPS man did to my truck. He'd better run the next time I see him.
its a little hard to see but there's a good 10" scratch in the side, some through the paint!

UPS won't take responsibility. Though I'd have a shotgun ready the next time I saw the guy.

I'm bigger than him - he's only about 5'0 tall - I can take him on! I don't understand why he tried to lift the springs over the side and not just drop the gate, there are scratches in the bed as well. I was pulled into the parking lot - usually I back in - and no one was parked on either side of me.

Because he's an idiot. I constantly yell at people for not putting the tailgate down and hitting my bed-sides. I've got shit on the passenger side, I don't even know what it is but it's caused the clear to get all hazy... Maybe I'll Rhinoline the whole truck like that other guy did with his 2nd gen.

OK, so I just installed the rear Bilstein 5100s tonight (without new leafs) just to see how much they improve the ride alone over the worn out OEM yellow Billies.

They improve the ride a lot.

And for anyone else who has yet to install them, two things:

1. Bolts are 53 ft-lbs, per 2003 FSM.

2. No instructions came with them, but mount them rubber boots down, per Bilstein and per chris 4x4:

From Bilstein:

Do I mount the shocks with the boot pointing up or down? With the internal design of the Bilstein monotube gas shocks, it does not matter whether the shocks are mounted with the shock rod side up or down. There are some minor advantages in longetivity and overall suspension effectiveness with the shock rod pointed down, and there are many instances where Bilstein has changed the orientation to take advantage of these minor improvements where there are no clearance problems. If there is an option, we recommend mounting the shock with the shock rod and boot pointing down, but in the grand scheme of things, there is no noticeable difference.

My shocks were supposed to be here today, no luck. Called UPS and the wrong zip code was put on the package. They are in San Angelo, 100 miles away. Now they will be here on Thursday. And yes I checked to see if I had a senior moment and put a wrong zip down, but I had the correct numbers. Just hope they are here by the weekend so I can get the leaf pack and shocks done. Also to change out dash bulbs and deck plate mod.

Does anyone have the tq specs for the bolts I tried looking through the 26 pages but only came up with the u-bolt (65 ft. lbs) and the rear shocks 53 ft lbs.
