I have a 2018 Tacoma SR5 with 2WD (DCSB). It is roughly five months old with about 8,000 miles on the odometer. I'm thinking about trading it in for a TRD OR Tacoma or 4runner. My vehicle was about $28,000 excluding taxes, and my local dealership is willing to give me $25,500 (as of last week). Is that a good value?

Also, I picked up a few chips on my truck this past week courtesy of the lawncare assholes. Will these little chips/scuffs bring down the valuation. I touched them up with some Dr. Colorchip, but they are still somewhat visible from up close. I have the itch to go off-road. Went last week with my friend's 2014 Tacoma OR 4x4, and it was a blast.

    $25,500 is probably pretty good.

The chips / scuffs shouldn't affect it unless they are really bad.

Can you afford the bump in payment, insurance, maintenance???? If so then do it, if not, build more equity in the truck to not be upside down. Pay it off sooner... then do it.

    $25,500 sounds pretty fair.

Agreed, its hard to find many vehicles that you can drive for a few months right off the lot and only take a $2,500 hit on without selling it private party.

25.5K is better then what I would expect from a dealer...

Thanks for the feedback. I might wait until the end of the year to build more equity. The chips pass the 3ft test, so hopefully its okay.

$25.5 “trade-in”? If its a trade-in, what are they getting back on the sale end of the trade?

Don't discount a regular ol SR/SR5. They will go on plenty of trails. I have a TRD OR, but I'd have no problems going to an SR.

That would at least close the gap a bit on the trade.

Remember your truck won't be worth $25.5k at the end of the year. Could be worth $3K, or $4k less, with more miles. Also with 19's coming and discount of leftover 18's.
Just food for thought. You may, or may not gain anything waiting. It a crap shoot.

I’d say trade it in. Only losing out $2500 is pretty good. If you wait till the end of the year you’ll lose out on more.
If you buy from them you could haggle another 1,000 for your trade in to purchase a truck from them.

I wouldnt trade it unless you go 4x4. Thats gonna be about a 12,000$ increase over what you paid for the sr5 but ya thats a fair trade in deal. Thats a lot of miles considering i only have 5k on my 17’

If you are serious, I'd trade it sooner rather than later. You are going to have more equity but also less trade value.

People keep saying to keep it and mod it, but its only a 2wd. Trade now and enjoy it.

Actually considering how overpriced used tacomas are, I have seen Tacoma's that range from 5k miles to 20k miles and only a 1k difference in price, but that's private or dealer sale of course, not trade in.

If you can handle a Private Party sale,do that. Win win for both. Go get that TRD OR 4x4!

2018 definitely only comes in 4x4 and the locker is not what makes it 4x4. A lot of old 4wd trucks came with open diffs in the front and rear, still 4wd though.

If the numbers are true then it was basically a $500/mo lease. You will get the tax benefit of the 25.5 so its not that bad, I would do it. In the long term if your not happy youll trade in eventually anyway and not get the same deal.

Depends on what you owe? What type of payment you will have? Stay away from lease and you should never finance a vehicle more than 3-4 years according to dave Ramsey and if you can’t do that then don’t refinance for a higher payment..save as much as you can until you are ready to trade it, just my opinion..
