If you're concerned about a stranger opening the passenger handle you can kill 3 birds with one stone by just changing the setting in the head unit to unlock all the doors when you reach behind the drivers door. You'll save $200, wont have to worry about unwanted passengers unlocking, and most importantly appease your wife.

I would agree to that for the most part but this is also for those occasions when you are on your passenger side, key is in your pocket, and you need to get in that side of the truck. Now you do not have to take the key out and hit the button two times to unlock the passenger side door. I guess you could also change the setting to hitting the button on,ynince but that still defeats the purpose of just being able to grab the door handle.

I agree 100%. There are 3 things that should've been included for anything with the tech package and a passenger side smart handle is one of them. Homelink and power seat are the other two. I think this is a great idea and may one day try my luck at it, but if @TacoTruck808 is concerned about who could unlock it from the passenger side, changing the headunit settings is a much easier and cheaper solution.

FYI. You can go into the car's settings and set the driver's door unlock feature to unlock all doors instead of just the driver's door.

yes... but if you have this mod...1F41170C-A5E8-49A6-A823-9C062FA5B019.jpg ....and the truck is locked... and you want to put something into the passenger side of the truck... you don’t have to walk around to the drivers side... unlock the truck... then walk back to the passenger side and load your stuff.... should have come standard from the factory.

Why? I see this as a life threatening situation...
What if (scenario) you are shopping at the local knitting and needle shop and a hot blond woman is coming fast towards you..and you have enough time to get to your truck, open the door, get in and lock all doors.
With your door mod she is able to open the passenger door, get inside, pinch you, kiss you, sit on your face...your life in danger. Should have left it stock.

And this step is actually required in order for the new smart passenger door handle to work correctly.

Of course this is exactly why I needed this mod, and both of these mods are exactly what I think are needed to make the Smart Key system complete.

I wonder if this could be done for all the doors if the appropriate driver/passenger door handle is purchased...?

Probably. Resistance may become a factor at that point though. The computer puts out (a small amount of) power to the driver’s handle, having four handles feeding off what was designed for one may become an issue. It could just slow down the response time or range, though the range may increase as well because you are basically quadrupling the antenna.

At close to $200 a piece I won’t be testing it out. The front and back handles are so close together I’d rather just touch the front door handle first (on either side) and save the extra $400. I’m pretty sure I can reach the front door while standing in front of the back door - hell if needed I can grab both handles at the same time.

    Good point with the resistance.

I’m kinda thinking like previous posters who said about their wife wanting in. I can see my kid eventually trying to get in before me when they learn to walk.

Tell him to wait lol. Builds character. I used to have to wait for my dad to unlock his truck door, with a key, and then reach over and pull the handle up to unlock my door. And I'd sit in the front seat! Miracle I survived.

This is simple and inexpensive mod. One I plan on doing for sure!

I've been driving a Ford Edge rental for the last couple of weeks and it has smart handles on all 4 doors! I've gotten spoiled!! I agree this should have definitely been an option with the tech package. Along with homelink

Amazing how technology and safety have changed. I remember having to lock every door by hand before leaving the car, and coming back we had to unlock the driver, then reach across and behind to unlock the passenger doors from the inside. At least I remember a keyhole being on both the driver and front passenger door. We didn’t have any airbags back then either, now look how many are in the truck. All my friend’s parents drove trucks so we would go everywhere with them in the bed of the truck. My parents had station wagons, and we would ride in “the way back” every time we had guests in the car, otherwise your right one of us was always in the front seat. I can’t imagine seeing kids ride in the truck bed these days.

My mom drove an 86 Taurus Wagon for years, and "the way back" rear facing trunk seats where my favorite!
