I have a 6' bed. The "long" version of this is only 5' in length. That means i loose a foot. Can't store my fishing rods that well, can't fit my skis at all. My home made drawers loose 3/4" from the front of the bed to the tailgate. I keep my 6' 1 piece fishing rods in there plus my skis in the winter that are about 6' tall. However it doesn't slide as nicely or look as nice. My buddy was the east coast rep for Decked and he offered me a nice deal on one. I was very familiar with the product design and quality. Both A++! Just the dimensions don't work for my wants.

I agree. What I lose in drawer space I gain in a full platform and the ability to have 2klb on top which I won’t even get close to, so I’m ok with the trade off lol

I was debating the merits of the decked system with a buddy today and ended checking here to see what people thought of it... It looks super clean, but I definitely wish they had found a way to use more of the free space on either end of the wheel wells. Seems like there's some space up by the cab that's left unused. Also, after having different sleep/storage systems in other vehicles, I hate to permanently lose the height from the bed to the topper.

I did a thread about it before (Kitchen/Shower/Drawer/Sleep System), but only using half the bed for drawer storage has been clutch for those times when I need to put something in the truck that's taller.

Damn! Thats extremely clean! I would have totally built a unit like I had planned on, but being that my bed isn't water tight and I like to roll the sides up in the summer, the decked system really appealed to me because of the weather resistance. I had an OSB drawer before, and I was always paranoid that I didn't want to get it wet or that I couldn't set anything real heavy on top for long periods of time.

Awesome setup m8, probably would have been better to put on other side to accommodate for taco lean. Unless that's not an issue for 3rd gen ?

Wow, thats clean af! Almost looks like its made of sheet metal, like a filing cabinet. Love how you can still use one side of the bed too.

Finally found a decent deal on a canopy off CL, which in turn led to the creation of the platform + 6ft drawers. Offset center made for the ability to get a bit of extra sleeping space if solo and/or allow for taller stuff to be stored on the side. Might make a support leg(s) that sits flush with the underside of either drawer that slides in a bed liner slot, but as it sits now, I can easily access the full length of the drawer while it's still supported by the tailgate and a stop support by the platform crossmember. Also ordered a modular, trifold 4" memory foam mattress that should be here next week - looking forward to that.

Stoked on it all so far. Now just for finishing touches ie drawer handles, lighting, and curtains.

Thought I would post some more updates on my current project:

Had the box built for a while, but have slowed down considerably because I started working again haha

Attached the bed mounting rings, put it all in the bed for a test fit, and took measurements to cut the fill in pieces. Happy with how its coming along and excited to start putting the final touches on it (paint, drawer facings, handles, etc)

I used 3/4" prefinished plywood and painted it with an Alkyd Enamel paint that what I was told would be a tough paint, but it has not held up very well and could use some touch ups.
