I see your point. They def didn’t have any fancy bells or whistles.

I guess my opinion was skewed too. The Hiluxes we had were about the nicest thing we had. There were a lot of old Prada’s. Use to see them abandoned all over the place with the hubs assembly coming off of them. My other main whip was a Kawasaki Mule and a Polaris Ranger. Hahaha.

So I just ordered all the parts to change the front wheel bearings on my 1st gen. Is there anyone around the Littleton/Centennial area that can do the press work?

My understanding is that the front wheel bearings on our trucks is very difficult to do with a regular shop press. I've heard of people using a hub grappler with good success.

Are you confident they're bad? I rarely hear of 1st gen front wheel bearing issues.

both of mine went bad at the same time around the 225,000 mile mark, and were replaced twice, because the first time they billed me but didn't do the actual work...but that's another story.

Question that I'm sure has been asked before about the plastic headlight housings and the haze they develop.
Why do the turn signals and brake lights not develop the same haze?

This is the first time I've had a vehicle with the plastic lenses, just restored them this afternoon and they turned out nice. But made me wonder why the turn signals were still clear.

Turn signals will too, but certainly not at the same level as the headlights.

They are manufactured with a clear coat, just not like what we see on painted clear coats. Over time, the clear coat gets worn off mostly by the sun (UV rays), and also dirt & chemicals from the road "chip" away at the clear coat. The reflective surface on the inside of the lens will help with the deterioration on the clear coat by reflecting the sunlight and magnifying the light on the plastic as well.

By polishing them, you get this oxidation off (for the most part)...but you are actually taking part of that clear coat off too. (kind of a win and a loss at the same time, because it sure is nice to see again at night...am I right?) Don't forget to put a good polish on them when you're done. They will need the restoration treatment again in a couple years, but putting a polish on them will help slow the time in between the restores.

Yeah I’ve been reading up on it and it appears to require up to a 50 ton press... :der:

I'm fairly confident it's a wheel bearing. I'm certain it's a bearing noise due to how it gets louder and quieter depending on how it's loaded in a corner. I wasn't really sure at first, I just thought it was tire noise because I've had wheel bearings go bad in my E30, and that is super apparent. But, with the larger tires with lots of sidewall, I imagine the noises gets muffled a little bit.

This all really started happening after my lift, and only got worse with the 33's. It doesn't help that I'm running 1.25" spacers all around, either...

But yeah, I'm just looking for someone who may have done this before successfully. I don't want to break anyone's home shop press haha!

With only one you’ll be ok for awhile. I have twins and ended giving mine up for a 2nd gen and I still miss the first gen all the time

When I did manual hubs on my 1997 4runner I did bearings too, and the shop That did it said “don’t tell anyone we did this, our shop 50 ton press struggled to press them out....”
That was 11 years ago though

That might be common with the lift.:notsure:
I’ve got new Wheel berring with less than 10k on them and ~2” lift on 33” and going around corners fast I can hear them whining.

As for a press, check with @thefatkid

I was camping in a federal campground near Lake George and had specifically looked up the fire restrictions on the fed webpage for that campground before I left. Fed website indicated that fires in a fire ring at the campground were okay. I had planned on cooking only over the open fire and left my propane grill at home. When I got there I was told that Teller County Sheriff had banned all open fires and only propane cooking grills were allowed. I didn't even know what county I was in until they told me. Since then I've learned to check both fed and county websites before I pack.
