Hi guys! Just this past fall I was able to buy a 2003 Tacoma Reg cab 2.7, 4wd, 2" receiver hitch, Automatic. So here was the bad with it, the Radio did not work (no big deal, as I installed a Pioneer radio, and that fixed that problem. The front and rear bumpers needed replacing, they where originals and getting pretty rusty, that is to be expected though. The Good, is I knew the person, and was able to pick it up for $3,000, and it only has 90,800 miles on it!! Also the 15 frame warranty is not up on it, so in a week I am going to bring it into Toyota for the to inspect it one last time. I am so hoping the frame fails, so I get a new one. So what I have done to it so far, was installed a new Pioneer radio, new rear black bumper (I hate chrome), installed the (Tacoma windshield decal, looks great). So here is what I still need to put on the truck, the Bilstein 5100s front and rear shocks, and 1" rear block kit. I know block kits are not the best, but I am going to give this a try for now, and later on maybe go to the Dakar leafs. What I still have to do, is buy a Relentless Fab front winch bumper for it, along with a winch. Want to buy new BF Goodrich KM3s that are coming out in June, or July. Also am going to need to buy a truck box for it, High lift Jack, Traction aids, and I am sure a few more odds and ends here and there. A few pictures of my truck. Just fixed some rust above the rear wheel wells, the paint was bubbling up. Some guys mixed up spray paint to be the same color, but it is off a little bit. Going to have to fix this when I get time. It has a few dents here and there, but what older truck does not? Thanks for letting me join.

Thanks man!! I am loving it!! Really hoping I get the new frame though, that would be awesome. Then I would have a 90,800 mile truck with a new frame.

Welcome aboard! Keep us posted on the frame status. Even without a new frame that truck should last you a while.

Yup, will do. It should last a long time. Really would like to get the frame Line-x if it does pass inspection. Can the spray the frame of the truck with Line-x when the cab, and motor are still on the frame? Like maybe just block the cab up a few inches for them to spray the whole thing? They are not going to be able to line-x the inside of the frame, but should be able to get the sides, top and bottom right?

Not really sure. I’m sure there’s someone on here that could give you advice. There’s lots of options to help protect the frame though so be sure to do some research before making a final choice. Might find a better alternative to Line X. Maybe browse some of the many sub forums on here. I’m sure you’ll find the information you seek.

What I like about the line-x is the lifetime warranty on it. So if it ever rips, chips, or peels they will repair it for free. Plus it is like armor. Yeah I will have to see if they could do it.

It helped that I knew the person. Thanks!! I am trying to make it into a hunting/ fishing/ off road truck. From what people say, the Reg cab 4x4 Tacoma is the best off roading truck. Love how it has the short wheel base, and the manual 4wd. It is much more reliable than the electronic actuator.

Just brought it in to Toyota for one last frame inspection. And the frame failed!! So I am going to be getting the new frame for it. I am waiting on it right now. That means new cab mounts, motor mounts, transmission mounts, all new gas lines, brake lines, new gas tank straps, and new gas tank skid plate. I could not believe it when they said I am getting the new frame!! Like I said before, I had different Toyota dealer inspect the frame 5 months ago, and they said it was fine, no holes. Then just yesterday on the second, and last frame inspection they found a hole in the right rear body mount. I will get you a few picture of the hole, and what the frame looks like. Have yet to take any pictures of the hole, or the frame. The only thing I did different, was pressure wash the frame, to blast the flaking rust off/ mud, and crap to see what they where dealing with. I had to pressure wash it anyways, as if it was going to pass inspection again, I was going to undercoat it. So glad I am getting the new frame though. Once I get it on my truck I am going to start undercoating it as soon as I get it back. Hoping for another 15-20 years out of the new one!! I will post pictures, and keep you all informed.
