I was thinking about doing a heat exchanger, but maybe that propane heater would be easier...do you need a 12v water pump? Where do you mount it?

[EDIT: Just re-read your post...sounds like you are running a Viair w/ a 15 psi sensor...wondering about that sensor...where/how that installs...)

I was also originally thinking heat exchanger but the instant hot water with truck off is way more convenient for our particular setup (you can see heater installed on shell wall here:
    DSC_2121.jpg

Drilled and tapped this switch into ABS with appropriate 1/8npt tap and ABS glue. (guess it was 20psi not 15)

Installed with a 2 pin pigtail to my compressor toggle switch so when I plug the pigtail in it automatically charges tank and shuts off when it reaches 20psi

Man @excorcist you've really done it up there, sir... It's all getting clearer thanks to your explanations... I'm assuming you have that viair permanently installed? I've got the MasterFlow MF-1050 Air Compressor
    but not installed permanently.

Would you mind posting a pic of the installed sensor/location? Also, any deets on the 2 pin pigtail would be most appreciated.

And, yes, @daohaus if you would like us to take this off your thread, more than happy to do so...again, thanks to you for some very good ideas. Maybe you have a build thread for your on board water set-up that I can check out, excorcist?

Dang yours is a good setup too if I had a bed rack or a similar setup like yours that would be pretty good, more water storage than my setup. I was playing around w/ PSI and thought maybe 50 would be good so that it would equalize as the water would drop. I originally used a bike pump to get it up to pressure, but I do have a smittybilt compressor I can use with a regulator to set it up to a desired PSI.

No build thread yet. I need to get on that.

Yes Viair is hard mounted in engine bay. I have heard good things about that litttle compressor you have, and it would be the same functionally for this application as the viair.

Basically I just remote mounted the Viair on/ off switch to my truck bed near tailgate, then ran a second pigtail with a waterproof two prong connector from ebay that can be connected to the tank's 20 psi switch when we want water pressure. When the pigtail is plugged into the switch it completes the circuit and powers the compressor, when the tank reaches 20 psi the switch shuts off the circuit and the compressor shuts off, when water pressure drops below 20psi during use, it automatically kicks back on.

The sensor I just mounted near the water fill hole and tapped into the ABS. Don't have any good pics of that particular part handy. In the picture of tank I posted earlier you can see the Blue air hose quick connect, right behind that is the pressure switch.

I ran an air line from the viair in engine bay to the rear bumper with a quick connect at rear bumper, and quick connect on water tank, so I can run the same coiled airline that I use to fill my tires to pressurize tank.

Thanks for the explanation...I'm going to probably have to go over it a couple of times as I'm not completely getting the wiring set-up...electrical has never been one of my strong points...plus I'm a little fried from looking at different setups... So, the 20 psi switch prongs are mounted to the exterior and the valve to the interior of the ABS tank?

[EDIT: Just went back for another look...it looked like a schrader valve on the other end of that switch, but I can see it's the 1/4 npt valve that you mentioned earlier...now it's making more sense...couldn't figure out how a schrader valve could give you a pressure reading...my bad. I'll figure out the air compressor wiring later...]
