10 minutes to install and program but terrible on distance. it only works up to about 20 feet. the remote start uses your vehicle keyless entry antenna. the company offers a phone app they claim will start your car from anywhere for a yearly fee. iI'm not at all into that.

I've got one. Got it from jmeitz! Plug and play, no wire cutting. He tapes off the connections you don't need and provides directions. Took more time to drop the dash than to program the remote. Very happy with mine, works great. I can start mine just fine. This is only for the push button start and automatic. If you have the H Key you will have to let him know. 12Volt Solutions does sell the H key set up. Due to the way that Toyota has set up the keyless portion, it does die once you open any door. Simply restart it and away you go. My Lexus works the same way! So I'm good with that.

Thank you for the info. I just have one question which the video did not specify how long does the vehicle stay on for before it turns itself off?

20 Minutes. I've tested that theory several times and it's spot on!

There is another kit sold here on TW that involves spicing wires! Not a fan of that! After your warranty expires that may be doable. The kit I bought plugs in between the steering wheel lock and one of the ECU's under the dash. I wedged the remote start controller between the two ECU's and it's wedges nicely. I installed it a few weeks ago and have been very happy with it. I'm OCD with shit and didn't want it to look like a hack job. I also lease mine and didn't want TFS to come back on me. They were already testy about the OEM running boards and vanity plates. I'm guessing they have had issues in the past. So I don't really blame them. Some of these guys get super stupid right out of the gate. I take great care of my vehicles so there shouldn't be any issues at lease turn in.

Any other able to confirm the 20ft range? Seems pointless if that's the case.

Maybe 30 feet, I'll vouch for the easy install. I use mine to warm the truck up in my driveway in the winter. No I don't have any range but I knew that going in and after a winter with it I like it.

I can program it from 7 min up to 30 or so min, or you can hit lock 3x again and it will turnoff.

Viper makes a remote start. Great range.

    https://www.12volt.solutions/pages/...2017~mk_toyota~md_tacoma~rn_push-button-start

I've been contemplating this one. It takes the remote start module ($250) AND the cellular module ($200). I'm still a ways off from dropping that much coin, but according to that site, the Viper Smart Start costs $99/year where this one is free for the first year, $29/year after (or $59 for a three year plan) and can be installed and activated by me, rather than a viper authorized dealer.

Caution: Take all the Viper info with a grain of salt. All of the info on it was posted on the 12volt solutions page.

It gets hot AF here and my truck is parked quite a ways away from my office. Being able to fire that pig up from the office 5-10 minutes before I leave would be awesome. Hopping in a cool truck on a hot day? Yes please!

What types of spices do you use? Are people running into same issues as the soy based wiring where rats are eating the spices from this mod?

I know it's been discussed in other threads but it really does suck how Toyotas shut off when you have remote started and then open the door.

I recently rented a nicely outfitted Jeep Compass and the remote start feature worked great. After you remote started you could get in the vehicle without it shutting off. You weren't allowed to get into gear until you pushed the start button. I think that is a much more elegant solution than having to restart the vehicle every time.

....Im not crazy I promise. My viper remote start has incredible 2 way communication between truck and remote, remote start which starts the truck and I can unlock my truck, open the doors and can do anything except step on the petals and put it in gear without the key in the ignition. If I do any of those things, it shuts off.

The "shuts off when door is opened" should be limited to a push-to-start Toyota. A key-type should be able to continue running until it times out, you shut it off, or step on the brake without the key in and turned to ON/Run.

How are you going to do that? Fortin makes one for the 2nd gen, but you have to tap into the brake and parking lights and split the ecm wire.

Going with something like Directed 5X10/4X10/DS4 for the base system, add-on RF kits for the aforementioned remotes, and custom making the harnesses to plug into ignition switch, DLC, and junction connectors for the rest of the stuff.
