Only a week in to my ‘18 TRD Off Road, when my sunroof is open I get that weird buffeting/vibrating wind pressure effect from as low as 25mph. It’s pretty severe as far as those go. I’ve tried cracking other windows, or the rear glass, the only thing that instantly stops it dead is just disrupting it with my hand. I’m sure the default response would be to install a wind deflector up there, but are there any other mods? Thanks!

    Ps-my first real post!

Dear “Gone with the wind.” Welcome to TW. I too have sunroof, but have not experienced any abnormal noises.
Have you talked to dealership about this issue?

I noticed this on an Audi we had one time. It had two settings. A 90 percent open that didn't cause that and a 100 percent open that did. Does it have to open all the way? Or can you stop it? I don't have a sunroof in my current truck.

A Prinsu Cabrack will solve that!

But if you must, a basic deflector will too. I was just trying to give you a valid excuse to add your first awesome TW mod :)

I haven’t taken it in yet. I’ve experienced this with other trucks just far less severe. Usually resolved by slightly adjusting other windows to change the air pressure inside. Changing the % of opening doesn’t affect it, only a disturbance like sticking my hand up.

You should have a sort of wind deflector that comes up when the sunroof is opened. I know on mine, when it's fully opened the 'wind deflector' type thing is protruding up a little and if I press it down with my hand I get that weird vibration/buffering noise.

Try cracking open the rear sliding window if you have one.

Interesting, that was my first thought when I stuck my hand up, there wasn’t one. Maybe that’s malfunctioning. Will dig deeper.

I’d look at the wind stop to see if something is stuck in it or making it stick. I do not have your specific issue but it shouldn’t be that whacked. Over the years all my sun roofs have had different wind noises or percussion’s but mostly at full open at highway speeds.
It’s under warranty so give them a shot at the dealership once.

Lol, was hoping the resolution wasn’t $500, but shoot.

There should be a silver colored deflector that pops up when you open the sunroof. Also, the sunroof does not open all the way with the one push, which is designed to reduce buffeting. You can further open it by pushing the open button, but that is when it gets noisy.

If you look in the Owners Manual it will show you where to stop it for the least amount of wind noise.

@Camel89 said what I was going to add. That silver popup is what stops it. When i hold it down while im driving it instantly starts up with the noise. Yours is probably stuck down.
Even when mine is fully open (two clicks) it doesnt do that crazy vibration thing. Just louder wind noise

Once it is open, hold the Open button down a second time to retract it just a bit further back ;)

I’ve tried both, the 95%ish then the extra bump to 100%. No better or worse, same at 47% as 84% as 100%, no pop up though, hoping that’s the root of the problem. I figured it needs some kind of deflection, stock, Prinsu, rubber chicken..

Are you holding the button down to open it all the way? Or doing a long press to let it auto open. With the second option, it doesn't go 100% of the way open. I do this with the rear window open and get no buffeting.
